Just purchased a 20" LCD HDTV from TigerDirect.com for $350.00, is a great TV with an outstanding picture. Will be using this on the bus. I've been told to stay away from plasma for generator use.

I was told by my tv man not to put one in the bus that it would freeze.

lcds are generally a better value than the equivalent plasma or projection tv; they're smaller, they suffer less from screen burn in, and they consume less power. The initial cost
may be higher, but is expected to drop as
the ramp-up for larger lcd screens continues.

I've had one on my bus for 2 years now, and haven't really experienced any problem; i drove my bus around the midwest in feb of '04, where
the inside temp of the bus was below freezing for most of three weeks, and didn't see any problems. ymmv.

Yes LCD's will freeze, BUT it has to get to about 20 deg. below zero, for an extended period to do it. Extended cold (down to about 10 F.)will make the picture slow or not make at all, but it won't burst...it just quits producing a picture. Conversely high temperature will make it go black. Again it has to be above 120 deg. F. for an extended period. There seem to be no long term deleterious effects from these extremes. ...JJ

Plasma technologies have been changing. On the latest technology models burn in is the same as for CRT TV's. I am not sure that it has made it to the consumer models, but the professional series models have this manufacturing technology in them now (and for the last few months). My favorite is the Panasonic 7 series professional plasmas.

Plasma has a higher contrast ratio (means better picture) and better off angle viewing.

That being said, I will be putting a LCD in my bus during the remodel. The smallest plamsas that I have access to are 37 inch. I think that is too big for the bus. There are some really nice broadcast level LCD's out there, but I will stick with the consumer stuff... it's just a tent after all. :-)

Towards the end of last year I read that the price of LCD TV's was going to drop drastically this year. Long about Jan-Feb, I couldn't wait any longer and bought a 23" wide screen LCD for my bus. As soon as I bought it the prices dropped 25-50%! Anyway, the one I bought fits perfectly up in the ceiling of my RTS where the shelf for the former destination sign sits. I even have my laptop hooked up to it so I can run Streets and Trips with GPS on the big screen when I drive.
