I just met a guy who has a '57 Gold? Eagle conversion. I didn't see the bus but after hearing the description I realized it was one of the rare models made for Trailways. It had a rear lounge, a hostess and whitewall tires. I remember seeing photos on the Trailways website.

The sides are anodized gold. The bus was made in Germany and has a fore and aft facing engine.

I know nothing about Eagles of any kind but this one sounds fascinating. Too bad I just bought a 4104 or I would go have a look at it.

I didn't say he is selling it. He may be but I didn't ask, I just want to see it after seeing those photos on the Trailways website, those were beautiful buses.

I'm going to take a look at next week if I get a chance.

If the hostess was built in '57, she probably won't fetch a very good price.

Looks great, except for that MAN (?!) engine. Some nice pics...

And Busnut "SixtyFoot" Mac will drool over this one: http://www.angelfire.com/80s/joycewiggins/photo/J-77.jpg

Ahhh, those were the good old days, when folks got excited about busses.

Yes, I very much like that... :-) If I could have found THAT... believe me... that's what I'd have!! That's pretty sweet...

But, for those that don't want to mess with AngelFire's "HTTP Rewriting rules" and get around the mess it creates... Here's a link to it from my ISP I uploaded a moment ago... :-)

Brian,

Thanks for the links, these are exactly as he described the bus except he said the tag wheels are turned in the same as the duals.

I think he said the engine now is a DD with an Allison AT.

He said the small windows over the windshield and the upper windshield have been capped, a real shame as they are classy.

Can you imagine trying to find replacements for those rear windows?

This is one beautiful bus and makes me think I need two buses!!

Ed...

According to this page:
http://www.angelfire.com/80s/joycewiggins/Jon-12.html

The engine is located in the forward half and is a Rolls Royce 275hp turbocharged engine coupled with a 6-speed ZF transmission (whatever that is). Similarily, if I'm not mistaken, the Prevost H5-60 is also of this configuration. My bus is different in that my engine is, in fact, a rear engine pusher configuration.

Here is another article I've found about this and other buses, as well as a larger picture..

By configuration, I meant the location of the engine... not the engine and transmission themselves. :-)

"If the hostess was built in '57, she probably won't fetch a very good price. "

Easy does it, Jeff. To some of us here, she'd be just a kid.

I don't think you're old enough to look at a 66 y.o. hostess as a kid, hoss. ;) Or don't act like it anyway...LOL

whippersnapper here...

With the "new math" I get 48 instead of 66 (but maybe that's 66 in hostess years).

I told 'ya Mac would be all over that Super Eagle.

Mac, every time I see an artic transit RTD when I'm driving down in Denver I picture you driving your beast across the country in the dead 'o winter. And breaking it free in the snow... Wow.

I'm anxious to hear a bus report from gusc. And pics, if we're lucky.

That Hostess wasn't a newborn BABY in 1957! She was a cute young thaing at least 18YO wearing short-shorts and a tight top!

18 + 48 = 66 today!

DUH!

"wearing short-shorts and a tight top"

Well, in '57... maybe more like a poodle skirt down to her ankles, but I get yer point.

I can see "whippersnapper's" quip of said cute Hostess "built in '57" causing some confusion. "Built in..." either being "born in" OR "built" as in the proverbial "brick house".

Kewl shot.

Now, let's fast-forward nearly 50 years and envision a pic of the typical 'Hound ridership.
