Hi everyone, I just wanted to share a funny (and very expensive) tidbit. I live in RURAL GA. My bus broke down yesterday on a dirt road. I went to have it towed this morning and the sherriff's dept. had impounded it. That was a nice $350.00 expense. I thought it was crappy that they didn't even give me 24 hours to move it, especially being yest. was Sunday. Oh well, they are gonna be hearing about it for a while if nothing else. RS |

They did. (Pull the axles) I can't believe they didn't give me 24 hours since it was a Sunday. That's ridiculous I think. Oh well. Lucky for me the impound place was the place I was gonna have it towed to for repair, but it cost like 2.5 times as much because the police called them and not me. Well let's say this: I called a couple towing/repair people, and the first 2 declined to work on it. The 3rd I called said well, we have your bus: it's been impounded. I'm like oh, ok. I see how it is now. So I had time to pick my car up from the airport, go to sheriff's office to ask them why they couldn't have given me 24 hours on a 600 - 700 ft. long dirt road, off to the edge of it and then I went directly to the impound place which is fixing it and they were just pulling in with it. What luck. (On the extra charges... I must have missed them by just a few minutes.) I mean, I understand two cars couldn't pass at the same time, but give me a break... I've never seen two cars on that little road at the same time anyway. Easy for 1 to get by, no problem. The lady at the sheriff's office compared it with it being in the middle of one of the busiest 4 lane highways in town. I thought: "Give me a break lady" I'm in rural GA on a dirt road that people over-abuse as a shortcut. There are like 3 houses on the road, and none on the side at the end by where the bus was. Anyways, I am not trying to rant or anything, I just want to share my experience. It's funny in a small way how well it fits in with my new bus ownership experience. I am still waiting on pins and needles to see what it' gonna cost to fix it... They are supposed to call me this afternoon. |

Not to second guess, but did you notify the authorities that it was broken down and you were leaving it? Sometimes thats all it takes and they will give you time to move it. Every municipality has their own ordinances about parking/disabled vehicles. Good Luck PS - Don't leave it with them too long, they'll turn it into a mobile command center or something. |

Roy, if i weren't for bad luck you wouldn't have any luck lately. I hope these setbacks don't turn you off of bussin'. Hang in there, bb |

Roy....maybe....just maybe....the repair facility that received the bus from the Sheriff will cut you some slack on their bill. Long shot, but might be worth a try. Also, if you have insurance coverage for towing, that is a possibility. FWIW, specific bus coverage for road service is in the $80-$90,....and that includes your other vehicles as well. I have had it for several years, used it a number of times. Very well worth it and expedient!! Best wishes. RCB '64 Crown Supercoach (HWC) |

Yes, I agree! My entire insurance on my bus with State Farm cost me $99.26 for the whole year! I just give them over $560 worth of bills. :-) Money well spent. That is for liability, emergency road service, and uninsured motorist. I was happy about the price! By the way, I got the bus back today. They said I ran it out of fuel. Must only be 100 gallon tank. It looks alot bigger than that to me! Replaced filters and reprimed. Rest assured that crap won't happen again. 2 new fuel filters $9 each from Napa, 20 gallons of Diesel @ $2.50/gal., 4 hrs. labor at $75/hr. and $50 for some bullcrap (oil for differential) that should have been included with the tow since the idiots charged me $350 for tow/impound (no discount), $414.XX for repair, and another $215 to fill it up. That was an expensive mistake, but, long term insurance that it won't happen again! I'm not discouraged... if it lasts until this time tomorrow, it will be the longest it has been without breaking down. I think it's gonna get better. My shutoff solenoid was the first breakdown, but we japped the fast idle solenoid and fixed it for now. Which is nice. It sucked not being able to cut it off from inside. Plus dangerous in case of runaway bus. No problem now. Runs stronger than ever... |

Damn Roy, if u continue this way I'm going to drop State Farm as my insurer before they start raising my premiums to cover u. LOL Glad u got it back and all is well for now, and yes, I think the cop that started this whole fiasco was an ---hole, given what u describe as the location where he towed it from and the hasty fashion in which he acted. I have seen cars sit on the freeway longer than yours sat on a dirt road, nothing more than a move it notice posted for days at a time. I venture they are collecting "kickbacks", and you're welcome to tell them that I ventured that. |
