I recently read on one of these sites that oil used in the crankcase of a 8V71 should meet spec. CF-2. Rotella by shell meets CF-4 along with other specs. Does anyone out there know if CF-4 is better or worse than CF-2. Also Wallmart sells Super Tech oil that meets the same specs as Shell's Rotella. Does that mean Super Tech is just as good? Help. |

detroit diesel recommends api service CD-II viscosity grade 40 (mil spec Mil L 2104D). 15W40 is only recommended in below freeezing temperatures when ether is not available as a starting aid. this is for all two cycle detroit diesels. sulfated ash content must also be below 1.0% |

CF-2 is for 2 stroke engines. CF-4 is for 4 stroke engines. Better to stay with straight 40wt CF-2 in a 8-71 Detroit. |

Super Tech is W-M's house brand produced by Ashland Oil Co. AKA Marathon Oil now-a-days. Made to sell at a low price. To be that cheap they have to cut corners somewhere. There ain't no free lunch! Cheers...JJ |
