Can anyone offer advice as to if the Hupp Heater (described below) is a wothwhile investment. I plan to use it for engine preheat (8V71) and hydronic heating via interior radiators. May add heat exchanger for heating domestic hot water later on.

THE CP-3050 IS THE U.S. MILITARY VERSION OF BENMAR'S MULTI-FUEL HOT WATER HEATER. THIS 24 VOLT HEATER PRODUCES (9kW) OR 30,000 BTU/hr NOMINAL HEAT OUTPUT.

THE BENMAR MODEL CP-3050 MULTI-FUEL COOLANT HEATER. 30,000 BTU/HR on high, 20,000 BTU/HR on low, will burn #1or 2 diesel Kerosene, JP4, ARTIC DIESEL (DFA) GASOLINE. POWER 24 VOLT - 6AMPS. WILL CIRCULATE 80-90- GALLONS PER HOUR

THIS COOLANT CIRCULATING PUMP OPERATES FROM THE SAME MOTOR ASSEMBLY THAT OPERATES THE COMBUSTION AIR FAN.

THIS COMBINATION OF HEATER AND PUMP MAKES FOR A COMPACT INSTALLATION AND ALSO PROVIDES A COMPLETE PACKAGE FOR HEATING AND PROVIDING THE MEANS TO OF CIRCULATING THE HEATED COOLANT FROM THE HEATER TO THE ENGINE AND OTHER AREAS AND BACK TO THE HEATER.

20" LONG X 11" HIGH X 6" WIDE.

Mobile Products Division, Hupp Inc.
CP-3050-RB
24V 5 Amp
Serial No. K-8431103

I can't afford to waste the investment on a heater that isn't a good one for my application. Among other things I wonder if parts will be a problem, and of course safety is no small concern. Not least of all would it be dependable in service?

Than you for taking time to respond.

Though I'm not familiar with that model, just remember that most Mil-Spec variants are built to a special set of specifications and by contract, the manufacturer is not allowed to release maintenance parts, or safety, hook-up and wiring literature. Many such items are orphaned from their commercial counterparts. Onan gensets come to mind, and they won't give any info about them. It sounds tempting, but before I plunked down my hard earned Rubles, I'd check with Hupp to see if parts and info are available for that model. When you find out, how about getting back on the 'Board and let us know? We all appreciate follow ups. Good Luck, and Cheers...JJ

These Hupp heaters show up on eBay from time to time. I seem to remember folks' having trouble getting a controller/ themrostat to synch up to it. Probably because the reasons JJ mentions about disclosure.

If you're an electronics whiz, maybe you can figure it out, I dunno.

If you do jump off into this unknown, please post your findings on getting it to work as I too would love to build a "poor-boy's Webasto".

Good luck,
bb

These heaters and info are at my shop so it might be a few days but you will get it.
Note will run also on 12 volt.
I have not had time to make a neat draw, it will be freehanded, but legible. Vents out the bottom of bus.
