What a horrible, horrible way to go. Apparently motorists saw something dragging behind the bus after it had stopped to change a tire prior to the fire. A jack or something?! Who knows... Human error is usually to blame when something like this happens. Busses seldom catch on fire and even more rarely explode. Since diesel isn’t very readily combustible, it seems that the patients’ O2 canisters contributed greatly to the immolation, causing explosion after explosion and fueling the fire with fresh oxygen. Sad, sad… |

Yes, very sad indeed. This shows that evacuating is not so simple for those who are of limited mobility. There are more issues to deal with than simply getting on the bus. I hope that we learn from this sad event so these unfortunate victims did not suffer in vain. kyle4501 |

One possible cause of a brake fire for all of us is having the brakes slack enough to allow the bus to drive with the parking brake on. Then do a lot of backing and stopping until the air pressure is low and sets the brakes. Fail to notice and wonder why the acceleration is sluggish. Must be the grade. Happened to me in West Virginia except I didn't have a fire. I mention this because all of us are thinking about could that happen to us. Yep. |

They are now saying Right Tag brake area (?) on the news this AM. Have arrested the driver, who isn't a citizen, with the implication that that explains eveything. |

Uhhh... "Have arrested the driver, who isn't a citizen, with the implication that that explains eveything." Safe to assume you mean the bus company that hired that driver did not check his qualifications for driving a bus? Si? ja? |

As I recall the original article indicated that the driver was an unlicensed illegal alien. Richard |

John, I don't know if they checked or if they cared that he was qualified or not. What struck me was the smug expression the newscasters mimbo & bimbo had in more or less 'wrapping' up the story, as if, "well, that explains *that*," which of course, it doesn't. |

ChuckMC9 - It was never just "news reporting" on TV and Radio, it was always "news commentory". They seem to feel we deserve to hear their opinion of the story, along with the reporting of the story. Oh well.... Associated Press does it all the time in print, so I guess we're not safe from any of it. Hey.... Opinions here too, right? Wassup? HAR! |
