my insurance co. has canceled me because my bus does not meet there requirments for a proffesional conversion. (it was liability only)
so I really don't see the issue. but as of fri. night I am insuranceless. need to find some one in state of florida to insure me. Progressive is out of thr question also. I had paid for the year with previous co. American Federation. I'm in tenn. right now and have to be back in wis. on fri. so need to get covered soon

Ron, register it at your daughter's home in Tenn (I believe you said thats where she lives) cheaper tag fee and insurance (tag just $24.00 year in Cocke county - others may vary) - contact AON Rec 1-800-521-2942 and see if they can place you - PLEAZ get full coverage, will require an 'appraisal' (we're talkin about your HOME AND VEHICLE here? RIGHT?), but can be done by inspection at one of the bus brokers in Nashville - HTH - Niles

A call to your state insurance commissioner may solve the problem, I had to make a few such visits on my bus. I am not sure the insurance company has the authority to cancel you for that reason.

How long did the company have it insured? I had problems a few years ago (not with my bus) and made a complaint to the insurance commisioner like Don/TX mentioned. Things got straightened up really quickly. I got full coverage on my bus sight-unseen by the ins. company. Good luck.

Insurance always brings up a big discussion and a huge diversity of responses.

Allstate was mentioned. I have been an Allstate customer (both auto and home) for over 45 years and they would not touch my bus PROJECT with a ten foot pole. I tried several of the major brands and got the same answer. I even tried what is now AON and they would only insure a finished, appraised bus back then (about 8 years ago).

I finally talked to a great broker: Miller insurance (1-800-622-6347) at a bus rally. Mr. Miller (now deceased) was at all of the bus and motorhome rallies and drove a great looking Prevost conversion called “Miller Time”. He knew our market first hand and was a great person to work with. They had no problem insuring my home built truck conversion or my Eagle. They broker two companies, mine is Progressive. However, I think they facilitate better communication with Progressive than you can get by going direct. Mr. Miller’s daughter now runs the business and they still work with bus folks.

We started out insuring the bus for the purchase price. About a year ago I sent them detailed documentation on my costs (be sure to keep all or your receipts!!!!) with photos of the conversion that was in progress. With no questions asked, they quickly raised my coverage to cover my investment at that time (about 60K). My cost is now about $1400 per year. That is high, but it also includes a great towing option (I have direct knowledge!!!) and has $500K combined coverage (our “toys” can do a lot a damage in a wreck).

They want me to get a professional appraisal when the conversion is done. However, they seem content to work with me as the project progresses.

Something else to consider, my insurance company was hesitant to offer true "agreed value" insurance. In communicating, they enlightened me that the "household goods" in the bus would not be covered anyway on a bus policy, but were well covered under my homeowners policy! Something about equipment not originally installed.
There is a huge difference between you telling the insurance company you value it at 60k and hearing their oooh and ahhh, but NEVER agreeing to insure it for that value. Many bus owners when reading carefully, do NOT have agreed value insurance. Average value of an old bus shell is what you are going to get. Beware!

I have had insurance on my "67" 4107 with Foremost Ins. Co. since 1994, conversion valued at 35000.00. Carry liability only on it, cost is $253.00 a year. Foremost specalizes in motor home insurance. I don't think you have to have it appraised if you only want liability on it, you can get a quote on line at foremost.com for that at least temporarily til you get it appraised.
This may help, hope so, have a good one. Bill E.

Forgot to say you can evaluate your bus at any value you choose, but they will agree or disagree when it is appraised, an agent of there's will take pictures of the bus and those are sent to Foremost for approval and all this takes some time about 2 weeks. Then they will set your insurance rate at that time. Bill E
