hello BNO watchers, Arrived in Toronto this evening around 10:00PM. via Kennedy Space Centre, swimming in the Atlantic, Washington D.C., and the duty free! temperature here... 21F/-6C uneventful with the exception of replacing the alternator belts that were being used to failure. really quick job with Bre holding the new belts in place down through the access hole while I manipulated the alternator end. Coach ran much better in the hills with the new air cleaner changed out in Arcadia, again maximum value squeezed from this component! Note to newbies: ALWAYS carry spares! I anticipated both of these preventive maintenance chores becoming problems and was equipped and prepared to fix them on the road.(really, I was able to do them where it was warm as I had hoped!) round trip milage will be 3242 miles when I get the coach back to its parking spot at Burnt River. fuel economy is too complicated to figure out this late after I have had to wait my turn for the computer. I will post more later. happy coaching! buswarrior |

BW, Glad you and your family are home safe and sound. Enjoyed seeing you again and you put on another great seminar. 3242 miles, Wow! My 240 miles seems awful pitiful. Cliff |

Buswarrior, glad you had a safe trip and glad to hear others take road repairs as a matter of course. What do you use for on the road heat?Dave & Dori |

Well, Buswarrior sure didn't need air conditioning! I would bet he had the OTR heat on full all the way... He only came to Florida to melt that 9 inches of snow off his roof! |

Here I am, somewhat better recovered from the vacation.... Thanks Cliff! Dave and Dori, I run the original coach HVAC on the road, with a Webasto DBW300 plumbed inline, so no problem with staying warm in any conditions. David.... and it worked! But there was already more on it within 24 hours of being parked. I look forward to the days of keeping it off permanently! morgan, I don't have a diesel generator. Only the Webasto is consuming diesel, and it's effects are pretty much invisible since it was only burning occasionally while we slept to keep the water tanks warm by convection. Driving around DC dropped that tank average by 1 mpg fuel mileage for the round trip was 6.25 mpg running flat out at 70 mph. Air filter in need of replacement southbound, fresh one northbound. Interestingly, no real difference in any tankful except the city mileage in Washington sucked that one down 1 mpg. That is in US gallons. Running a stock 8V71 in the 280 HP configuration HT740 MC8. I fill the tank to the lip for a close enough real world consistancy. Pretty good when you figure the "safe range" for an automatic equipped MC8 was 500 miles. Niles, George lets me park at the side door of the White House in the darker shadows, doesn't he let you do that? Seriously, we arrived at 5:30pm, so by the time we were on the Mall, we could park anywhere we wanted, just like the cars. I would encourage everyone to take the opportunity to see the Mall and the war memorials in the dark. They have a completely different character than in the daytime, and it is a lot quieter. Have no fear, there can't be any safety concerns, there are many women out jogging and cycling alone at that hour. Last year, we parked right on 3rd, in the Mall, by the capital, this year I parked in the WWII bus drop off for a while and moved to the Lincoln Memorial bus drop and parked there for an hour. Rest of the family were not as adventurous as Bre and I last year, walking the entire length of the Mall and back again. It was also cooler this year. They walked WWII to Lincoln, and I drove the bus around. Again, no officials are concerned because it is quiet. Go to the far ends, tuck up to the curb, shut it down right away, and no one will bother you. There is a daytime parking spot that would be of interest to busnuts. There is a large area for bus parking south and east of the capital, just across the river against the north end fence of that armed forces base. The commuter buses use it to layover, and I have used it with a seated coach. All you'd need is a short taxi ride to get back to the capital area, or tip a bus driver heading back. My maps are still in the bus, so I can't do better for directions until next week. happy coaching! buswarrior |

Oh, and I forgot Ohio drive for daytime parking, runs from Jefferson past the back of the FDR memorial to the Lincoln along the water's edge. If you can find a spot.... happy coaching! buswarrior |
