Anyone here have any experience regarding Outback versus Xantrex Trace Inverters?

I haven't heard of Outback until recently, but I'm being told that they're better and cheaper - being that they're a newer design by the same engineers who created the Trace. Or so I am told.

Anyone have any experience with these? They certainly seem better in terms of price/load and weight and features.

David,
I find a couple of features, that Trace SW inverters have and Outback doesn't offer, very important and well worth the price. First is the ability to 'boost' a small shore cord (the shore cord current limit is programable), with power from the batteries, to start a large load (air conditioner). Second is a 60 amp transfer switch, this allows me to run everything (well almost) through the inverter. I have a 7500 watt generator, an SW2512 and only the electric heater for my hot water is not through the inverter (I have a Webasto for primary water heating). While I couldn't, for long anyway, run all 3 air conditioners on the inverter while driving I can run 2 and I don't have to change the wiring for a different choice of which 2.

I thought the Outback had transfer switches?

Regardless, I won't ever be hooked up to shore power since I won't be staying at campsites. So I don't care about transfer switches or shore "boosting."

Any other reasons?

Hello David.

The "boosting" is a very valuable feature.

If you have to plug in to a 15 amp plug, all you do is tell the Trace what you are plugged into and carry on with life. The Trace won't trip the breaker if you turn on too much stuff without remembering.

Good when we get older and forgetful, or the other half is not as keen on the foolishness of load shedding as we are!

happy coaching!
