I'm adding an Onan 7.0 QuietDiesel generator in my forward bay. The big question is where and how to tap into the fuel lines. Suggestions? Randy Schlotthauer MC9 |

Hi Randy, I've heard that you do not want to tap into the existing fuel lines. Instead, you want to at least add a separate withdraw line but leave it several inches above the engine withdraw line. This insures that the integrity of your engine line remains intact, neither engine will be starved for fuel, and, most importantly, that your gennie will not use all your available fuel and leave you stranded somewhere. Never done this personally, as my genset runs on propane - just regurgitating info I've read in the past FWIW. . . Scott |

Hi Randy, Scott's right. You need a separate pickup shorter than the engine pickup so that you can still drive 1-200 miles if the genset uses all the fuel it can get. You could return the genset fuel into the main engine return but if you are going to install one pickup you might as well do two fittings. I just did a set for my 4104 GM. On my tank the fill pipe has a thick flange that bolts to the tank of about 4" wide & 8" long. I removed it & found a spot that is inside the fill hole in the tank then drilled & tapped two holes. I took a brass street elbow, drilled out the bottom to fit the O.D. of a piece of steel 5/16 tubing I had & soldered the tube into it. |

These guys are right on. On my MC-8 there was a small plate with 2 screws in it near the "fill" and I put the 2 lines (one for return) through that. This plate may be used for a fuel guage sensor, I'm not sure since I don't have a guage. I put the lines 6" up from the bottom of the tank. Ted |

I added a separate tank for my genset in my 4104 plus i left the original a/c gas tank for a reserve tank for both the genset and the main tank just cleaned it out real good and added a small electric fuel pump. |
