I have an 85 gal. bulk L.P. tank in one of my bays and I'm looking for some type of emergency shutoff coming out at the tank just in case a flare nut cracks, vibration loosenes something up, accident, etc. I know they must make something like this but have not been able to find a source to buy one. I don't want to roll the bus and have it blow up at the same time. It would shut off the gas coming out if there is a large volume coming out fast. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance guys! Norm Edlebeck MC-7 |

They do make “Excess Flow” valves that go in the line and if the flow is more than it is designed for ( like a hose coming off ) it will close. This is very simple , but it will NOT shut off the propane if there is a small leak like the sniffer kind will do. It will only shut off with excess flow. Check out this link its to TEECO products a supplier of propane equipment http://www.teecoproducts.com/Catalog/A29.htm Hope this helps , Mike |

they are use in all vehicle propane conversions and called a lockout valve, so you might try the junk yard for cheap sources or any place that sells vehicle propane conversions, might not have the speacial price you could pay from a speacialty parts supplier , but be the exact same device |

Check out this ebay item. All you need to complete is a fuel pump rollover switch from an FI automobile. The pictured valve is typically found on RVs as gas control valve with a switch inside the coach. I bought a marine unit off ebay that had a sensor, alarm, and a 12V solenoid that cuts the LP supply off if LP is sensed in the area of the tanks, or inside the coach. It was a $200 retail item that went for about $60 bucks. I've never installed it...don't want the battery drain from the solenoid when boonying. Still a good concept. JR |

Sorry about the last post...no item number. Here goes: 4611489219 It's a 12V LP solenoid. Marine catalogs (West Marine) offer several versions of what your looking for with leak sensors. RV suppliers sell the similar units. The one used on RVs seem to have a lot of false positives. Shutting down the LP without an alarm going off. JR |
