Questions for the busnuts: I’m looking at a 1984 Flxible transit. 40’ long, 6V92, V730D trans. Top speed is 70mph, so I’m thinking it must have the highway gears. If I do a lighter weight conversion, what kind of fuel mileage can I expect to get out of this unit? I know some transits were really bad, 4 or 5 mpg. Is this one of those? How hard are Flx parts to find? Was the “Silver 92” a DDEC engine? Thanks, Casper |

Six to seven mpg if you keep it at 60 mph, five if you push it at 70 all day. Expecting good fuel mileage is sort of a moot point when you're talking about something this big that has the aerodynamics of a brick! IICR, MCI Parts have body panels, etc. for the Flx. Running gear is common bus stuff, available from MCI, Mohawk, Muncie, Luke, IBP, Nimco, etc. 1984 Silver 92s should still be MUI, not DDEC. If so, easy to pump up to 350 hp, just by changing the injectors to 9G90s, per Geoff. HTH, RJ PD4106-2784 Fresno CA |

Parts are not difficult to find for a Flex. This board helps me find parts for my 1981 Flex. I sometimes place ads for parts needed etc. I found an ebay seller that has a warehoue full of Flex parts. I bought an AD2 air dryer from him. I drove to pick up the item and he let me wander in his warehouse full of Flex and RTS parts. http://hecsbusparts.com/ Also, I think Luke has Flex parts from his stock of buses. I bought a set of manuals from him. If you need specific information from my manuals, just ask. Also, I'm thinking about changing the rear end ratio from 4.56 to 4.10 to lower the engine rpm and better speed. I like my Flex, it's built like a brick ____ house! PS Milage, I got about 7.5 mpg at 60 mph. |
