My conversion has an HD740 with al kinds of cooling lines. I have more tranny/hydraulic hose under my bus than the local volunteer fire department has for fire fighting hose.

I forgot the details, but believe it leaves the tranny going to a set of filters (hughe). Then to a radiator water cooler, and finally to an air cooler that would equal the size of my radiator. All these twists / turns really take a lof of hose connections.

Just how much cooling is needed ??

Does your conversion have a tranny retarder? If soooss...maybe the prior owner (hot rodder?) wanted to be able to come down STEEP grades at speed without melting the Allision---and I forgot my password....again!! :-) :-)

Considering the price it costs to rebuild, KEEP IT COOL!

Yes heat is the #1 enemy of most all drive train components but especially automatic transissions
next to engines! The more cooling capacity ya got the better as long as it doesn't restrict the flow (which causes the #2 problem in adequate fluid) Bryce aka Busted Knuckle

Tranny retarder - Ya' know, the previous owner did say something about that. I discounted what he was saying thinking he was simpley gearing down. So there is such a thing? That means another wire or something for me to go look for.

As far as tranny temps. Don't know. No gauges...yet.

You don't mention what kind of bus you have. If you have an MCI, particularly an MC-7 or MC-8 with the smaller radiators and small blower fans, you can't get enough cooling.

When MCI started putting automatic transmissions in their buses they didn't upgrade the radiators sufficiently to cool adequately in extreme conditions. As the cooling system ages the temperature where extreme begins goes down.

If you don't have a dash guage invest in an infrared thermometer. Not only does it make a great cat toy but it can tell you instantly how well your cooling system is working or not working.

As it has been noted before, heat will kill a power package quicker than almost anything except lack of lubrication.

If you have additional cooling you are very fortunate.
