I'm going to buy a wabesto or simular system. but need some info and advice (the latter I'll get any way so may as well ask for it). should I get 12 or 24 volt. The reason for my question on this is, my bus is 24 volt but I don't think I'd want to run this off my bus batteries when bus is not running. My house batteries are set up for 12 volt for my inverter. I do have 2 extra deep cycle marine batteries that I could use but don't know if that would work very well or long.
does any body have a diagram and info how to hook it up and use this to it's maximum such as complete bus heat including bays, hot water for house system and preheating motor. What are it's limits? Such as how many heaters can I put on it? do I have to buy a special hot water heater? It obviously needs some way to be shut off from engine heat system while driving and using it or does the engine heat system take over while driving and wabesto is shut off? how much fuel does it use? Also what should I pay for a sytem that is complete?

Boy Ron you asked a mouthful, and I can't answer even part of yer answers so I'm not gonna try! But I got some good news for ya! I got a used wabesto unit I removed from an '89 Setra if ya want it it's yours! Now I don't have all the info on hooking it up but I do have the # to a guy that does! Also I have complete manuals on the Coach it came off from and can make you copys of all that pertains to it! If yer interested in it, give me a call because if it just sits around here until the next load of scrap leaves, it'll be loaded too! (unless spoken for! I don't have any idea if it's good , or not I just never liked 'em and this 1 was on the bus when we got it, never tried it, just had the cahnce to take it out and I did!

Bryce...is it high output type such as 80,000 BTU? Which most transit use. Too much for motorhome.

Ron tries to keep it in 45,000 BTU range to avoid waste of diesel fuel...starting mode take more then running mode and cycle less (off & on). They're usually harder to find a used one.

Class 8 (trucks) use smaller one...check salvage yard & ask.

ProHeat X45 heater is computer controlled, and used less fuel (made in kold country..Canada)

Jerry I'm not sure any details I just know it came standard equipment on an '89 Setra S215HDH which is an over the road coach. It is supposed to be able to prewarm the engine and help with coach heat in extreme cold or idling conditions. I never even had the fuel turned on to it, I'm sure to some people they are great especially in an RV but the couple I've dealt with gave us nothing but trouble(ya gotta remember we have older and very stubborn drivers that look ya in the face while listening to ya explaining or trying to! Then call ya as soon as they get out of sight and ask now ya said do what? Or it don't work! Or I found a better way an.......!) so we don't use them! If we buy a coach that has 1 if comes off! 1st chance I get! Bryce aka Busted Knuckle

Thanks Bryce, and to every body else don't look a gift horse in the mouth. if its too big that's better than too small. and I'm sure that it will be fine with all the things I'd like to run off of it . plus it could be good trade for what I need if it won't work for my aplication. for the price it's perfect. plus even if it dont work it will be good for preliminary fitment till I get one that will.
Bryce is a great asset to this board. very well informed on busses and a place to get repairs or service when in his area.

Thanks for the kind words all of ya, and I did get it weighed a few minutes ago Ron it weighs exactly 50 #'s by itself so I figure with packing and box about 55 #'s I'll call UPS and see what the charge will be and call ya.

Hi Ron
R.C. gave good advice about David Haynes at vehicle system in colorado. If you go to there web site http://www.hydro-hot.com there are complete installation, operating manuals that can be downloaded and printed from your computer. Especially now since you seem to be a proud new owner!! BTW they sell components that will fit with your system if you need parts. I bought a used system from a RV salvage yard near me for $3k plus $1K of parts to make it work. You may have gotten a real bargin.

Highly recommend you run your new Webasto from your house batteries. Webastos suck a lot of juice for the circulation pump! Running for an hour from the chassis batteries to warm the engine is do-able, but running all night for comfort heating is a different story.

Ronthebusnut.com ........has diesel fired heaters from time to time...I purchased mine from him and am very well pleased....only a few bucks extra on minor parts and lots of advice from David Haynes and it is a great system.

Just remember that it is CRUCIAL toi keep the circulating pump *below* the level of the unit itself.....Right David :-)

I would also check with David Haynes to see if you can install a smaller orifice to reduce the output BTU of the furnace without disrupting the performance of the unit.
