On my way to Baja Mexico I drove past the bus yard on 215 South where I purchased my Flex/Grumman. From 10 miles away I saw plumes of smoke 200 feet in the air. It couldn't be. The old bus yard in flames! The closer I got and the trafic slowed to a crawl. I got first eyewitness of 30 buses of every type in flames! I heard fuel tank explosions, parts flying in the air, black smoke! My first thought was, glad I got my bus out when I did. My second thought was, must be the sinnister work our enemies striking at the very heart of the bus nuts. On my return trip on 215 North, I saw a steady stream of flat bed trucks and cranes moving out burned out bus carcasses. The printed news media says it was 32 buses that were destroyed. |

Their there; may their passing be not in vane, may there parts be reused that others may continue to the life of the lucky few that get converted! |

I posted a thread on TSI, a few up from this. They only lost 32 buses. It was a very small part of their lot. Turns out, someone was trying to remove a throttle pedal, which started the fire. They have it hanging on the wall, with a newspaper article on the fire. There are still a few damanged buses on the lot. I believe the rest were towed out for scrap. In my TSI thread, there's a photo of one of the badly burned ones. There's another out there where all the windows have bubbled and stinks of smoke. I didn't get any pictures of that one. They were still cleaning up yesterday (Wednesday). They were pulling up all the dirt from the fire area, presumably due to contamination. I'm sure the EPA would have a cow about the oil and gas residue in the soil. They had a big pile of soil, which was to be picked up later, I believe. I didn't really ask them, they were busy piling it up. Otherwise, the lot is fine. |
