Has anyone purchased from Colonial Bus Sales in Chicago? Did you have a good or bad experience?

They are #1 on my list right now for a MCI 102A3 with 6V92, but I am still looking. They have five they are selling. They are all road ready as three of them were out on charters.

Colonial Bus Sales has generally had really high prices, but they really want rid of these 102A3s. They had them listed for $28k recently, but it appears they will sell for just over half that price to get rid of them.

I went down there today to get a general look at the buses. If I decide to buy from them, I will go back to look over the buses closer to see if one makes the grade.

Chicago.......look for rust.

If you can get one for 14k, they have records and it doesn't have rust get it.

They said the buses came out of California. The saleguy also said just because they got them in California doesn't mean they weren't run elsewhere.

The price is not quite as low as $14k, but close.

Why would you think the engine would need a rebuild? The only 102A3 with 6V92 on the web site says it has 90k on the engine. (If you look at the pictures, they are of about 5 different buses, all 102A3s.)

If I do go back, I will try to figure out how to get an independent evaluation.

If I remember correctly they had some buses on Ebay for a looooong time. They were always the same ones. One claimed to have a rebuilt engine and tranny. It was an Orion transit the "buy it now" price was $8500. It never sold. I don't know why somebody wanting a rebuilt engine and tranny even for a swap did not buy it. Something funny to me.

90k miles on the engine, not on the coach. A brand new rebuild would be best, but the price would probably reflect that. See http://www.colonialbussales.com/1262.htm

I did see the Orions sitting on the lot. One of the guys showed me one as an alternative to a coach for conversion. Didn't seem to be anything in particular wrong with it. Probably just not a lot of people looking for old transits.
