Just read the past posts on this subject but would like additional input.
The 6V92 in my 1986 MCI 102A3 uses 1 gal of delo 100 every apx 800 miles. I have no idea how many miles are on the engine and have put about 35,000 miles on it myself since we purchased it 2 years ago with no problems (yet).
The engine starts easy and what smoke there is clears up quickly when its warm outside, a little longer when its cold.
A good old friend insists that I add STP to help reduce oil consumption.
I have been reluctant to use the additive but I also don't want to insult my friend by not following his advise as I value his knowledge, experiance and friendship.
Thanks for your time,

Not STP...

A gallon in 800 miles is not that bad, You probably have leaks too..

However you need to verify the correct oil.
Must be CF-2 Rated 40 wt. Not multigrade.

The add 1 -gallon of Lucas Oil additive.

Should help solve the problem..

I added the Lucas additive to my 1981 6v92 bus and it began leaking oil from the turbo. Got home drained the oil and filters refilled with 40 WT motor oil drove 2,000 miles and noticed that the leak stopped. Detroit Deisel engine requires 40 wt only. I won't add any additive to my old rig for fear it may blow up! Adding oil additives to 40 wt decreases the viscosity and starts to seep out. This has been my experience.

PS

If your engine is newer and in good shape Lucas additive may not harm anything. But if it starts to leak you just have to drain it, replace filters and refill with 40 wt. Also, when I used the Lucas additive my engine began "using" oil at about 1 qt per 800 miles. Now it uses 1 qt per 2,000 miles. You be the judge.
