My own calcs also showed that Sunfrost refrigerators were not nearly as good as they claimed. I went with a competitor but stayed in the mobile products category.

There is no doubt that Sunfrost exaggerates the savings. They are nowhere near as good a 5 times as efficient. They compare themselves to the average of all existing refers out there, not with what else you can buy new. I had calculated something similar to this article where the sunfrost would be somewhere between 1.4 and maybe 1.8 times as efficient. Efficiency is still good though. I bought the newer RF16, it has trouble free magnetic seals, and condensation has not been an issue. It has a drain line, and one of the real bonuses is that since it has two compressors, there is no airflow between the freezer and the refrigerator portion. This keeps food better in both the freezer and the refrigerator. Less freezer burn, and veggies and things in the refrigerator portion keep much better, and less odor mixing. The new ones have an inside light in them, something older ones did not. If you are trying to cost justify which way is THE cheapest, its true Sunfrost is probably not it. If you want a really nice, quiet, very very energy efficient refrigerator, and energy efficiency is more important than money, Sunfrost could be for you.

Since I have not yet finished my coach, I sleep withing eye-shot and certainly within earshot of it. While not silent, I have no complaints about noise, its really very quiet.

I am very pleased with the unit.

Having said that I think the owner of Sunfrost is interested mainly in profits, and not so much in customer satisfaction and service.

Greg,

What make did you go with? Is is AC or DC powered?

I was looking seriously at the Tundra 8 cu ft unit driven with a Danfoss compressor. I wanted to stay with DC power plus not cut two more holes in the bus.

Initially, the Sunfrost looked like a winner until I saw the prices. After looking at the Wind&Sun article, the Whirlpool ET5WSEXKQ looks attractive.

All you long term boon dockers out there, what are you using, and would you buy the same thing again?

Chuck,
In the archives you'll find my Dec. 10 post on adding insulation to an Avanti 6.3 cu ft unit and test results showing a 20% reduction of energy use. This'll work on most any refrigerator that has visible condensor coils.

Chuck,
After much research and calculating and talking I selected a Waeco Coolmatic series. Read the copy/paste belw for more details. I think I paid under $800 for it but I am not 100% sure and would need to look at my records to be exact. Read below and here is the link: http://www.waeco.com/en/281_437.php

The refigerators of the CoolMatic RPA/RSA Series
WAECO's CoolMatic RPA/RSA lines of on-board refrigerators comes with cold accumulator technology. The RPA-40 features a manual thermostat, while in the CoolMatic RSA models with 60, 80 and 110 litres capacity, the TEC electronic programme control assumes full responsibility for the energy management. A fully charged accumulator provides cooling for up to 12 hours.
