Is anyone using Cellular One to access the internet? I have an LG phone and I can get a data package for it. Cellular One does not support high speed internet access and they won't tell me for sure whether the data cable and supporting software will allow me to use my phone as a modem. After dancing around the issue for about 30 minutes, I finally got someone to admit that the data cable "should" allow the PC to connect via the phone using minutes all the while...But, and I quote..."I can't guarantee that becasue we don't support or encourage internet access through our system". So, anyone doing this with Cellular One? If so, which phone and what are you using for software? |

I don't have cellular one, but I do have an LG phone. The phone to PC cable and software will allow the phone to become a modem. You'll have to set up your software to dial your ISP's number. The connect speed will vary, but it's not too fast...expect the worst; rally with the speed. At the 1x level, all calls are the same (typically). That is, a voice call is the same as a PC connection. So your PC connection to your ISP should only be charged for the minutes used, per the plan you have. Free time, is free time. Try it out minimally for the first time, and preferably near your account's closing date. See what the bill says... If you ask questions, you'll get answers that A. You don't want to hear B. That are wrong. By the way.... Radio Shack has the LG Cord/Software package for less than the vendors. |

Keep in mind, that Cellular One may or may not process the data... You'll know when you get it going, one way or the other. Just use it a cpl times and check your bill. If it clears it ok, you may be able to breath easy. Generally, the 1x (slow) service is the same as your normal calls. Most companies offer "3g" service, with very high baud rates.. They usually charge extra for the high speed service.... There's a number of decent web sites providing the elusive cellphone to Internet info. Here's one: http://www.mobiletechreview.com/tips/wireless.htm It's worth the price of the cable and software, to find out. |

There is no data charge. I did get that much out of them. They told me the only charge would be for the minutes I was online...but they were evasive on how exactly to get online. |

Do you now use a dialup ISP? If so, you'd use the same number(s) as you would at home, but use the full 1+area code, etc... The documentation that comes with the cord and program, should explain the rest. I use "Dialup4less.com". They have numbers in near every city, so it's great when travelling if you have a local phone line connection. For the cellphone with free long distance, it doesn't matter. I just happen to like this outfit... |
