so I'm considering a beautiful fully converted mc-7 and would love some fellow busnut advice on obtaining and installing a tilt/telescopic steering column. anybody have any advice/stories? I'd like to update to at least the late '80s style mci steering. how big of a task is this really gonna be(not that expect it to be as simple as an oil change ) advice on obtaining parts? I'm in northern california. also, any advice on who to do it? I just don't quite trust myself with such a task. thanks! |

MCI went to integral powersteering in 80-81. I have two 1980 MCI-9's one with, one without. You definitely want the integral box. Fred Hobe wrote an article on the swap/upgrade. Tilts can be obtained from a variety of sources, you must be careful on the selection in order to get a match with the universal joint as some have run into problems when the splines/diameters didn't match. Don't be tempted by an auto unit. Stay with Truck/bus. Various aftermarket sources for a new/diff steering wheel, such as VIP |
