I would like any information that anyone may have on a 1960 4104 serial #4443.

Also information on putting assist steering on this bus. As it has none at this time. Steers good going down the road, but would like to have some assist when in tight manuevers.

Alan -

According to my roster, GM originally delivered PD4104-4443 to Airline Transport, based in Washington, DC. It carried fleet number 112 when new in August of 1960.

As for p/s, contact Luke at US Coach in NJ: 1-800-262-2434.

The old trick of rocking the coach , eg. easing off the clutch enough to just barely move the coach a tiny bit, while tugging on the wheel works well.

Some folks that have installed P/S are not happy about the extra slop that gets into the system , not helping the highway steering, (99.999%)of driving.

Hi Alan,
Did you buy the old girl yet?
As for power steering assist, lots of these buses did have it. It will be a lot easier if the front to rear tubing is there to connect to. There is a hydraulic assist and an air powered assist. The hydraulic system seems much more common. It consists of a big ram/valve assembly that mounts next to the tie rod. There is also a gear driven power steering pump & reservoir in the engine compartment. If you own the bus and don't have the books yet you should buy a set 'cause there are lots of things to maintain & adjust on a bus.

installing the lines is not a big thing. on my 4106 I just took 3/4 pipe ond slid it through the supports for the floor. then use u-bolts to attach it to the floor. Near the front I took a toarch heated ahd bent the pipe where the floor was flat. works great.
