Have any of you guys ever replaced the dash in your Eagle for something larger? I'm look at doing 14+ gages in the new dash. I've had someone say the can make me a custom fiberglass dash but haven't gotten a price. I've seen people use Freightliner dashes among other things. Just wondering what you guys do . . . I installed a dash made by R&M but it had to modified to fit! It was a wrap around type like standard in the model 10's. Mine was a model 01 which shouldn't have made any difference but it nneded a lot of attention to go in! After it was in, it looked really good and I used all new VDO gauges! Ace |

I have seen some really nice installations using both truck and custom dashs. In the flea market section here, some one has a killer price on a complete set of gauges. Thread name is:"Complete set of VDO Instruments for sale" in the Flea Market Section. Pat |

Pat, I noticed that gauge set for sale. Unfortunately, it contains some of what I need and some of what I don't. I figured about $1000 total for all 14 gauges I need and all new sending units. If you ever need any - http://www.egauges.com/vd2_main.asp has some killer prices. Not the best web design - but their prices definitely make up for it. Matt 1979 Siler Eagle Model 05 |

Ace, Do the R&M dashes come with holes already cut in them or can I customize where all the holes go? Also, I noticed they have fiberglass skin for Eagles listed. Any comments about the company - other than having to adjust the dash to fit - I should know before I attempt to do business with them? Thanks!!! Matt 1979 Silver Eagle Model 05 |

We are installing this weekend R&M dash panel oredered from Custom Instruments. WE cut the holes and designed it ourself. We used Beede gauges that we picked up at Northwest RV Supply in Eugene Oregon for $200.00. Got the reducers from Beede from 24 to 12. I think we are going to be really happy with it and it looks nice. Just very time consuming. |

Matt the dash was completely blank so I chose the spot for the gauges! I can't tell you personally about the company because I acquired the dash in a trade for some windows. I have heard good and not so good about the caps they make! Other than that, they have been around for a while! Oh I DID have to make a NEW insert to go in place where the gauges go since the Fiberglass was just a little thin to hold the gauges. I used a piece of black textured Kydex and then mounted the gauges to the two pieces. One being the dash fiberglass and the other the kydex that were bolted together. Ace |

The picture I sent above is a full bus width dashboard. It comes white, gelcoated, and blank. I cut out the blank and laid walnut over it to install the switches (left), gauges and warning lites (center), air brake, and blower controls (right), and backup monitor (far right). There is a lot of space there, so you could configure it like a 747 if you wish. Go to R&M's website to see the full length picture. Good luck David Anderson |

David, Nice Job!! That answered my questions. I'm curious - what did you use for your warning lite cluster? 747 - sounds good to me!!! Matt 1979 Silver Eagle Model 05 |

I got the light bar from Custom Instrument Panels 310-515-4674 It was Model TLB-L10 and cost $149.50 in November of 2000. http://www.custominstrumentpanels.com/accessor.htm It has a bunch of lights on it. Some I don't use. However, I got a bit creative with one circuit. The Eagle parking brake activates the brake light circuit in addition to the service brake pedal lighting it, also. Therefore, I didn't need the "Park Brake" indicator on the light bar. I installed a toad brake on my truck and when it pushes the toad's brake pedal, through a relay I ran a circuit to illuminate the "Park Brake" indicator on the light bar. Pretty clever, huh? It tells me when my toad brake is engaging. Anyway, it is a compact, slick light bar, worth the cost for a nice touch on your panel. David Anderson |
