v92 series, 8 cylinders, vehicle FF, clockwise rotation (RH), aftercooled turbo torque, does it have the option plate on one of the valve covers? It will list all of the engine specific components and type if non standard item. Also consider pull the pan and checking the condition of bearings besides the general overall condition.Oil sample if it hasn't just been changed.

Hi John, engine is 350 miles from me so am not able to look at the option plate, and I am told it has about 50k miles since rebuilt but has sat for at least 4 years (inside).

I don't know whether you can do your own work, but if I bought it, I'd take it apart and check over everything. You would just have the time in it and a complete gasket set. A lot of people underestimate how long something has set.If it truly is a good engine, then you would know what you have. Too often, people will just put in an engine of unknown cond. and see what happens, causing damage that could have been avoided.Good luck on whatever you do.

Hi John, I plan to take it apart and check it. One for the reason you state, and second to learn what makes it tick. I spoke to my local DD dealer today and they offered to inspect parts for me if I find anyhting that looks abnormal. Cheers, Dave
