Can you clarify that request?

What is it and where is it?

Who sells it?

Is it diesel or gas?

The reason that I am asking is that all reference that I can find to "orion generator" says its an audio waveform device.

This generator is on a bus I am purchasing. I don't know who sells it. It is diesel.

Vague info provided by Google, but do a google anyway:

If you're not weighing the entire purchase for the quality of
the genset provided, why worry? Gensets are probably
your least expensive replacement.

Can you get a model number or something on it? I've tried searching around for Orion in relation to diesel generators, but found way too many wrong things. The details on the tag would be helpful.

I have found an amazing number of things with the name "Orion" on them. Orion VII hybrid bus. Orion DC/DC converter. Orion TV/VCR combo. etc. etc. etc.

And no, it doesn't appear to be the DC/DC converter, unless they did a serious change of their look.

Hey Bob, it was a pleasure talking with you this evening. Hope you can find out some more info on this crittur, but as I mentioned, if this is the only reason to not buy the bus, not to worry.
I have a hunch it's Chinese,,with someone's brand name on it.
We can always find you an American built gen/set at a decent price and you can dump this one on E-bay.

I would say that based on the Kubota Engine that it probably is OK. The Kubota D950 is a tough engine and they last a very long time, Use little fuel. Parts are easy to get.

At first sight I would say that the generator is a Yanmar. The very best there is and Orion is the outfitter who put the starting accessories and filters on it before it went into use. I could be wrong, but......

May be a Chinese "Kubota" or "Yanmar" where they use Kubota block castings with Chinese innards.
They are called "Kubota Style" engines.
I go through similar issues every day with kids motorcycles made in China and cast with "Yamaha" or "Honda" logos. Selling agents of these sorry products tell the unsuspecting customer that they can find parts at Jap dealers. Customer gets PO'ed with us because we cannot supply parts for Chinese crap. Japanese parts don't interchange with Chinese parts. No matter what "they" say.
However, as has been stated, if it works...it may work for a long time.
For a good enough bus deal, I wouldn't let the generator brand stop the purchase.
Best, JR

The Orion gensets were made by a friend of mine named John Stacconi in Binghamton, NY. He made them for many years and barely broke even selling them. He used quality engines and generator heads. Parts are still available from others since he bought and assembled parts to make the genset. It is a good genset and you should not be any more afraid of buying it than you would be of buying any other name brand genset.

Based on the archives it is a Fidelity alternator.

These units were manufactured in the Philadelphia area and they specialized in the pancake design. If there is ever a problem with it any rewind shop can easily re-wind or repair it. It was a brushless design. I used dozens of them in my manufacturing business years ago. Probably in the late 70's, early 80's. Combined with the Kubota diesel, it should be a great unit.
Richard

BTW, back in those days there were dozens of small assemblers buying components such as these and assembling them into first class units. I think most of them (the assemblers) have gone by the wayside now.

Jim Ashworth is correct. These generators are quality built, similar to Wrico with long lasting Kubota engines.

The generator did not make my decision wether or not I bought the bus. In a few weeks I will be going to drive and inspect the bus with the intention of purchasing it, after this I hope to be more informed about this particular genset.

Thanks for your information and comments.
