Hi Folks I am considering the possibility of donating my 4106 to some charitable outfit instead of selling it, but I don't know what I'm doing. I'll talk to the accountant, of course, but I have no idea how to get an appraisal that Uncle Suck will accept next April. Has anyone on the board done such a thing before? If so, could I discuss it with you sometime? Thanks in advance Don |

Don, Recent IRS ruling... You can only deduct what the charity actually sold it for. This should really tighten up the vehicle gifts. Jim |

james, not true, if the charity does not sell the unit and uses it in their operation then all you must do is prove an approximate value of comporable vehicle. Morgan clough oaausa.com |

I can hardly see a charity using a 4106 for their own use. Many churches are dumping 70s era coaches due to insurers not wanting to insure stuff that old. Personal and commercial insurance are two different things. James is right that you can only deduct that the charit sold a vehicle for. This makes it real easy to determine the tax deduction. Use average sales on ebay as a pricing gauge. That should give your accountant something to work with. I know a non-profit youth group that refurbishes coaches and takes kids on cross country tours. Email me for more info: dougyes@hotmail.com (put "bus" in the subject header) |
