We are going to head to Fort Smith Ar, in a few days. What is the best route from Denver to Fort Smith?

Ft Smith is on I-40 straight east of Albuquerque, Amarillo, Oklahoma City. Did you Mapquest it?

Yes I did do a mapquest. I also like to see what people that have made the trip reccommend. Mapquest has sent me on some strange routes before.

The last time I was on I-40 it was a very rough road in poor shape. I heard that the were going to re-pave it a couple of years ago, but I do not know it it ever happened.

Hi Mike
The best fastest route is to take I-70 east to I-35 then south to I-40 and east to destination. Just returned from Dallas to Springfield MO two weeks ago by taking I-40 to 71 highway and I-40 wasn't bad. Could also take I-25 south to I-40 then east to destination. A more scenic route take I-70 east to Kansas City, then south on Highway 71(four lane expect for 10 miles in southern MO) to destination. If in bus figure about 16 hours drive time via fastest route.

Everyone I know in this area (Fort Smith) that has gone to Denver has suggested the same route as Rob King.

BTW, what brings you to this neck of the woods?

Yeah if you go I-40 at all it's not bad. I've driven 40 all the way from LA'ish to Nashville. The only place it's a little rough is just a ways east of the TX OK border.
