Background info - Brake pedal doesn't return to the full up postion (basically need to rock your heel to bring the pedal up and at times extinguish the stop light tell-tale) which allows the coach to roll freely. This was a know problem to the previous own and at the time of purchase, he had done some lubrication of the linkage which seemed to help. Since this problem typically shows itself in stop and go traffic becoming very annoying. I decided yesterday to take a better look at the problem myself. I removed the brake pedal and linkage at the tie-rod ends to avoid messing with the adjustments. Cleaned and lubed everything my service manual states. Put it back together and it moves freer but still doesn't return to full up. Additionally, the brake valve appears new. Hand operating the linkage I noticed that the linkage doesn't contact the stop button on the brake valve about 1/4-3/8" short. Having said all that does anyone else have slack in their brake pedal movement? I realize the linkage can be adjusted to take out this slack but the linkage hasn't been adjusted in a long time judging be the threads and with a new appearing brake valve. I would have thought the installer would have adjusted it to spec then. Any comments would be appreciated. |
