Help! I recently bought a 1960 PD 4104. I have since discorved that it does not have the correct oil dipstick in it. Can someone tell me where to get a replacement or maybe tell me the length it should be including oil level marks? Thanks, Dave |

David, I'll measure mine tomorrow. I've had it only since August so can't guarantee it is correct but probably is. |

Check the archives. I recall several people posting about how to determine the correct level. IIRC, it is to measure down the outside of the dipstick holder to the point where the oil pan joins the engine. Either that line, or an inch above that line is the correct oil level and I can not remember for sure. After determining this, then it is easy to measure down on your dipstick to determine where the full mark should be. Richard |

David, According to the Master Parts Manual, X-153010, your '04 takes oil stick part number #5184014 which the DD Field Service Data Manual defines as: Type 103, Dimensions: X= 20" (the distance from the bottom of the stick to the stop where it won't go in any farther). Y= 1.81" (the distance from the low mark to the full mark). Z= 17.25" (the distance from the full mark to the stop where it won't go in any farther). DDFSDM also notes: Stick not serviced, use #5109291 dipstick with 5109760 adaptor. The difference is X=20", Y=1.75", Z=16.88". I hope this helped. These are also the same sticks as in the 4101, 4102, and 4103. Good Luck, Dallas PD4103-1085 www.busconversionstuff.com/eventpage |

The correct full oil level for your upright 6-71 engine is one inch below the pan rail (where the pan and block mate). Just hold the dipstick next to the dipstick tube so it is in the same position as it would be if was inserted in the dipstick tube and see if the full mark is 1" below the pan rail. --Geoff '82 RTS AZ |
