Any recommendations for an insurance company that will cover a coach bus with no seats in it? The title has been changed to motorhome already. I had talked to my insurance agency and thought I was covered to get my coach home. They said a vehicle purchased for personal use would be covered for 10 days automatically. I assumed this included RVs and didn't mention it was an RV I was asking about. I found out this morning that RVs don't get automatic coverage. I told the agent I am buying a Dina Viaggio motorhome and gave them the VIN. This company doesn't like to cover anything unusual, so I need a backup plan. I pick up the coach on Friday so I need to find insurance right away. Brian Elfert |

My State Farm agent did an "Application for coverage" in about 10 minutes, I cut him a check for $26, he endorsed the application and gave me a copy, and I was covered. Sight unseen except a couple of pictures on a website, no title in hand. I've been with the guy for years and have coverage on 5 vehicles with an automatic bank draft every month - I don't know if they'd offer that kind of service to a new customer. It doesn't hurt to ask. Casper4104 |

I guess I was panicing a little bit too early. I did get insurance through my normal insurer. I was emailed an insurance card for the coach 45 minutes after I emailed the VIN over. No idea what it will cost me yet. My insurance agent has refused to cover some of my other RV conversion ideas, so I figured they would shoot this one down too. I was hoping to get names of other agents to use as a backup plan, but I don't need them now unless the price is absolutely ridiculous. Brian Elfert |

My insurance will cost me $738 a year. Does that seem okay for a stated value of $36,500 for the coach? This includes comp/collision and liability. I have maximum limits on my insurance so that pushes the numbers up a bit. Brian Elfert |

Brian, a few months ago Progressive quoted me an annual fee of over $900 for a stated value of $25,000. So you got a better deal, but I would check with FMCA, and GMAC. When I bough my coach I insured it to get it home with GMAC and they were a lot cheaper than Progressive and FMCA was about half of what GMAC was, at the time(3 yrs ago). I'm insured thru the AARP (The Hartford) but they won't insure my dump truck or my motorhome. Ed |

ANON, 1-800-521-2942...had mine there for 4 years. No problems, reasonable premiums. Helpful. FWIW RCB '64 Crown Supercoach (HWC) |

I ended up getting mine from Progressive. I was declined from a few other places, even though initially they said they would cover it. Geico said they would cover it, but the Friday before I picked it up, Geico sent me a reply saying it couldn't be covered. So, Friday evening, I bought from Progressive, paid online, and printed the temporary insurance card. The hard part of picking mine up was getting the registration done. Because it was still a bus, no power, no water, they wanted to do it as a commercial vehicle. An hour of sweet talking and the manager playing with numbers got it taken care of, without breaking the bank. I showed up to pick up my bus with $3,200 in my pocket, and after paying for the bus, tag transfer, and registration, I still had money to buy beer. |

State Farm insurance costs for my '58 PD4104 conversion valued at $30,000. Basic Liability coverage: $66.64 a year ($5.55 a month) Full coverage with $500 deductible: $331.82 a year ($27.65 a month) That's with multi-car, gooddriver, loyal customer discounts. $738 a year doesn't sound too far out of line to me. YMMV, Casper |

Unless I can save 50% on insurance, I'll probably just stick with my carrier unless they cancel coverage for some reason. With my umbrella liability and all that, it makes sense to stick with one carrier. My rates should go down at next renewal as my chargable accident will come off. Brian Elfert |
