hello folks, i am very close to purchace of the mc-5a, year 1967, 8v71- 4sp spicer. i am hoping to get some opinions on the availability of parts for it. major components as well as the minor, from uni joints, wheel bearings , air bags, brakes and bushings to wiper motors ect. this coach is in very good condition and has detailed maintanance records going back to day one. 2 owners , 1967 -1990. 90- 06. never a commercial passenger coach. all opinions requested. regards mark |

Some parts unique to that model could be harder to find but almost all of the rest shouldn't be much of a chore...minor parts as you have listed are pretty much common to all coaches and there are a lot of sources. The main thing I could see against them is the weight for a 35 footer.Just my opinion though partially by having a liking to GM's. There are a lot of MCI fans on here that can give you some better pointers, esp as to rust problemsIs this still a coach or a conversion.Could be a good idea to talk to Luke as he probably could tell you some of the critical items to check. |

Mark I think you will find that you can get parts for the 5. If it has only had two owners it should be a good bus. Wish I could find a nice 5 at a good price. I have a nice 8 but am thinking about going to a 35 ft. bus. |

Body parts ,if needed may need some looking for. Most of the chasis and running gear , engine ect. are stock off the shelf and are relativly easy to get. There is not much 'UNOBTANIUM" use in a US coach. Parts for a euro light weight would be a really different problem. FAST FRED |

MC5A is an excellent conversion coach. All the parts you mention are standard parts available from truck supply and truck brake shops. air bags are made by several differnet companies and are readily available. About the only special item on a 5 is the rear axle and drop box and they shouldn't be a problem unless the coach has very high mileage. Bus Warrior is in your area and could be a great resource to locate parts and service. |

YOu will be happy with your MC5. The only problems we had with ours was steering and the tranny. With new Ross steering and the allison 647 it is a dream to drive. We lived in it full time for 8 years and enjoyed it. Am getting older and will sell soon look for it on the buses for sale. (If they ever get the site up and running again) Neil |
