I recently got a '58 Crown, and it has hard steering. My friend thought it might be "air assit" steering. Anybody had any experience with that type of system?

Yes, I have air assist steering on my T6H5307N Fishbowl. Blew a hose on it last year and haven't fixed it yet. Steers just fine without it.

check www.maradyne.com-they handle the air-o-matic steering assist systems. You could scan the info on the site to determine if you have one of those systems

Pat...it is possible your '58 has just manual steering...or it could have come from the factory with air assist...or the school district may have added air assist at some time.

Yeah, you can safely run your Crown without any power assist...they were designed that way to get you home safely. Look and see if the thing has been disconnected.

My old '63 had air assist and the steering was quite light if memory serves correctly. Other older Crowns I drove had the "Armstrong" variety. CROWNS FOREVER!!!
