I had a broken window in my bedroom that I wanted to replace. I called the local/largest glass shop and was told that they didn't cut safety glass. They did do tempered glass but cut to size then tempered it.

Having 8 large windows that I replaced with metal siding, I decided to try cutting it my self.

After some research on the internet (diamond blade saws are sold in several places) I went shopping.
Lowes produced a 4" diamond circular saw that would endure the high speed Metabo sidegrinder I have.
I figured the first one would be an experiment/learning experience.
After multiple passes on each side it was cut thru. It takes a steady hand to make a smooth cut. If you shake, like I did, it makes a rougher edge, almost a 1/4" wide in places. I cut it a little large so I took the flat part of the saw blade and tried grinding it smooth, with little success. I rushed the job and was a little shakey that day.

Glass shops have large belt sanders to smooth out the rough/sharp edges so you could probably get something done there, if you cut it large enough.

My rubber trim covered almost a 1/2" of the edge so the first piece was useable.

I did wear a good particle mask and a tight fitting pair of goggles. No problems there.

Hi Malcolm
I went to local glass shop here to do the samething for my Prevost windows. The guy was very anxious but the test cut went well with no problems. Just hope that the final cut on 4 windows works well. So my answer, call around local glass shops, the prevost window is two pane tempered. It took 6 glass shops and only finding one to do the job. He is charging $50 per window to do the cut which is pricey but he is the only game in town. Good Luck
