Has any one tired the new tabletop icemakers? They plug into 110v and have a reservoir instead of a water system connection. They seem to cost about $200. They probably do not keep the ice from melting after it is made. Do you think they would work in a bus?

You have to pour water in every time you want a batch of ice. Each time. You're getting practically nothing for $229.

You need to re-read the ad it stores 1 gallon of water. I have also been looking at one of these to use on race weekend. Why use up valuable space when something like this could work when you need it put it in otherwise leave it at home. The other nice part is you can used bottle water and not have to drink the local water.

I'm with Tony/Kim... I think they're a great idea. We've gotten used to having a cooler in the shower of the bus to keep our cold drinks cold and save the room in the fridge for milk and food.

These things would be great for making fresh ice... in the bus, under the awning at a CG, at home when we're entertaining, take it to a friend's house for parties, etc.

I think it sounds like a great appliance,
Brian

We used ours for the first time this weekend at a bluegrass festival. Every ten or twelve minits it drops a dozen ice cbbes in one of three sizes. If you stay on top of it ; it makes A lots of ice over time. When it fills the basket the ice touches a sensor and stops the ice making process untill you empty the basket. If the water reservoir gets empty it stops. We didnt have to make one of those runs to the store for ice all week. One of the guys I jammed with had everyone watch for the red light so that he could dump or add water to keep it going. It got to be a game and a joke among us pickers. It is what it is and it has its down side but we found it very handy and we like ours.

I have had one for a bit over a year and would not be with out it....I have dry camped with it and doesn't seem to use much electricity....I just add bottled water when its needed and always have ice for my drinks....Well worth it....
