I have a 79 mci 9. My over the road air still works so I am going to keep it.
I want to place my 8 kw. onan genset in the first bay.
Who has done this? Did you bring air in from the floor? how did you exhaust the hot air? How did you cool the radiator. Thanks in advance for any help.

I installed a Generac Guardian 7.5K genset in the first bay on the street side in my GMC 4905. The genset is an enclosed "quietpac" type. I cut out the bay floor for air exhaust, diesel exhaust, and service panel access. The air intake comes through the holes cut in the bay door. Then I built a partition wall so I still have use of the curb side of the same bay. Here's a few pictures.

If you buy this type of genset, it'll come with the layout for the holes to cut and such.

First and most important question....does it have a pull or a pusher fan? You can have your choice you know.

Being a retired Onan dealer I have installed quite a few. I'd opt for the pusher fan and mount it radiator out with expanded metal in the door to the bay.

Think in terms of pulling the incoming air off the road toward the rear of the genset. That way you'll get less road spray and the incoming air will be cooling the generator end first..then the radiator.

Installation manuals are available from most any Onan dealer if this is your first.

Good Luck,

Any fan that blows air under the bus, and any intake that is
going to get it's air from under the bus, is going to provide it's
owner one helluva' dust-filled headache.

Not really. Mine exhausts the hot air out the bottom. And I've never really seen any more than a small amount of dust just upon fire-up. Even then it just blows it out and away from the bus. It has a deflector that directs the air outward. You can see it in one of the underneath pics I posted. Mine works wonderfully!!

I also have a squirrel cage fan that brings air IN from under the coach and I have a bladed fan that exits "out" under the coach. The ONLY time I have seen "some" dust is when I was deep in the woods in Sertoma at a Bluegrass festival and that was very little! Mine works great too!
