We are having trouble getting a speedometer in a MCI 9 to work. We have a set of Beede gauges we picked up at NW Rv. We have everything working but the speedometer. Have reduced down to 12 volt, added magnets to the front hub. Any thoughts out of what we are doing wrong. And of course I can only work on it on the weekend, when Beede is closed. |

to troubleshoot the mag pickup, test it with a voltmeter.... you will have anything from 1v ac to 40v ac output....depending on your groundspeed.... use a good fluke meter, something that will work on lower volt ranges....the mag pickup needs to be close.. like less than .015 to the teeth to make it work.... to set the distance, screw the mag pickup in untill it touches, then back it out less than 1 whole turn...i've got several used mag pickups in my stash if you need 1... they are about 3" long and have 5/8" fine threads, with a locknut...other than that, check all your wiring for continuity... and it helps if the wiring is a shielded-type wiring.... |

Pete, if you are going to display your wares for us, we kindly request that you hire a buxom, scantily clad young lady to hold it up for our perusal, instead of just something propped up against the wall. You're a shameless tightwad. ...JJ P.S. The camera system I got from you worked out great. |

Rick ...it could be that you wouldn't have the right amount of pulses per mile. I ran into this when I put my new speedo in. If your speedo requires 10,000 instead of 400 pulses per mile, you will have to put the pickup sensor on the driveshaft with a 16 spline yoke (all new ODR trucks and RV's have spline yoke for the speedo pickup) Ron |

Thanks everyone for the advice. We think we know what we have to do. We have to wait till tonight when Rick gets home from work and ad a few more bolts to the drum. We might have to wait till this weekend. It's not suppose to rain in Oregon this week so I have to work. Thanks again guys. Pat and Rick |

Well good luck with adding bolts to the drum...I don't think you can get enough bolts on there. You could try a ABS ring from a OTR truck and adapt it to front wheel, they have around 120 to pickup points on it. The min number of pickup point would be around 21 on the front wheel. That would give you around 10000 pulses per mile, which is the min the new speedos require, or get an older style speedo that requires less pulses per mile, 500 to 800 pulses. Ron |
