I just finished replacing all the bushings in my MC8 with the red poly bushings from IBP. The most difficult rods to do are the drive axle upper rods. The pin on top of the drive axle is held in place by 2 5/8's bolts. These bolts were locked in place with lock washers and nylon locknuts. My impact would not loosen the nuts until heat was applied. I used a map gas torch. After heating the nuts came right off. Of course the bolts and nuts were then replace with new. To mve the pin to the opposite side of the bus I used a porta power with a large foot on it. I rested the foot on the Brake drum and the pin was very easy to press from Side to side. |

On the brake drum? How much force did you have to use? Hope you didn't warp it. |

How many bushings did you replace and how long did it take you? |

I replaced all the bushings. There are 5 rods on the front axle and 4 on the rear. I have at least 20 hours in the job. The coach must be blocked and all wheels removed, one corner at a time at least. I removed all the wheels because I also wanted to service the brake chambers and check all the other brake components Have you ever picked up a drive axle brake drum? |

I ordered the bushings, grease, and nutlocks thru International Bus Parts. Rich is the person to talk too. The cost was roughly 250.00 BTW the drive axle brake drums have to be removed as the lower rod is trapped. There are 5 slotted screws holding each drum to the hub. You will need to replace thes screws. I found a tool at NAPA that I was able to hammer into the screw slot and then run them out with a burst from my impact. |
