I need some suggestions, but first a little history. I bought my mc8 a 1974 8 years ago, the out side was already painted with an expensive paint job, but it is not my favorite color. The bus is pretty well done, but you know they are never done. The other day I notice some electrolytes several places on the sides. The bus spent it life in the south west and there is very little rust in the usually places. The sides are straight and solid I think the only way to fix this is replace the side, but I think there is probably some rust under the windows after all these years and I think if I remove the side I may be in for a bigger job then I want with the inside being done. I’m very sure that it is solid and safe and will last many of years, a lot longer then I will. But to fix this eye sore I’m thinking about covering the sides with smooth fiberglass, I like that look, and then I can paint to suit. One question is what weight of fiberglass siding should I use and how about the trim pieces around the windows and radiators. If I go through with this I am sure I will have many more questions, I’m thinking about doing this in the winter, when I have more time and a heated shop. Any thoughts on this project.

Hi Bill
Get plenty of help when you are applying the sides if you decide to do that, like 4-5 men because it is heavy and awkard. Get a system as to how you are going to apply practiced before going through the real thing.
You should really think about looking into why the electrolysis??? is there first. Fix the problem if possible. If not fixable, consider selling the coach to someone who wants and likes that kind of work.
As to the colors, I was able to take my old coach to a place that did graphics on trucks and they were able to cover up with tape several awful colors.
Good Luck

I used fiberglass from r&m and am very happy with th results, You can use the same trim that you have on now if it's not beat up. I glued mine on with pl urathane caulk. It really holds strong and doesn't set up as fast as some glues, giving you time to rivet where needed. 4 guys is a good number to have .The weight is not that bad Rob. Marc
