Need more info John, do you have a website, so we can look at pictures? If it is in North Ca., where at, I am in the Sacramento area. I have not seen any 81's for sale, but the price is as reasonable as I have seen for a Prevost, I see lots of later model 80's going in the upper $100,000 range. Ray D |

I bought a Royal converted 84 Prevost with 73,000 miles and a 8V92 five years ago. Prices for this market segment went down sharply about three years ago and recovered slightly in the last two years. I believe 1984 was the first year for wide body coaches (103”); they made both 96 & 103 that year. The 81 has flat glass on the sides, I believe. If you want the newer body style, wide body and larger engine, you should be able to get it for 120,000. Here is one. Jack |

102 Inches Jack, Not 103 .. Probably a typo?? I think the 81's were all 96 inches and had the curved side glass. A buddy of mine has one and it's a 96 with curved glass. Also only had the non-turbo 8V71N setup for 277 hp.(coach). |

Johnny there's a big difference between the 1986 and the 1981. the 81 is 96" wide with a 370 HP and the 86 is a 102 wide witha 475 HP. 6 inches doesn't sound like much but it is ...and the bigger motor is much until you hit some of those Rocky Mountains... I see you live in NV. The 81's got 183,000 miles on it and the 86's has got 130,000 miles and they are both the same price? I know which one I'd buy, without batting an eye. A awning kit is cheap compared to these differences Ron PS just noticed the the 86 has the updated front light kit (1993 single lights) /w with mini windshield wipers ...way kool (pic 13) |

Johnny ..I still wouldn't count out the 86 ... It's a way better deal even with the sales tax. I paid around 1500 for my 22 ft Zip Dee Awning which is the awning that will fit this coach. Make Phil an offer.. it only a phone call. JMHO Ron |

The engine in the '81 is an 8V71TA, 370 HP. The engine in the '86 is an 8V92 (also turbo and aftercooled.) Mechanics I have asked consider the 71 series a much tougher engine. I have seen 8V92s with a rebuilt engine at around 135,000 miles when I was looking. I looked for an 8V71TA. I may be wrong, but it is a tough engine and I have had no trouble with it. With a conversion that old, some of the systems may be dated. Other systems may have aged. Pay to have the bus inspected by a bus mechanic and the interior inspected by an high end RV shop. (Make it clear you are not a potential buyer for them.) I wish a 1981 were worth $120,000. I believe that you can get it for less. Who did the conversion? I have 1981 converted by Executive Coach Corportation, Fox River, IL. Marc's father had one new. I can give you some help on things to expect and look for on this brand. If it is an Angola and it has not been rececorated, their early '80s coaches left me flat. There were not too many companies converting then. LeMirages and LeMiraage XLs both had curved side windows in any year. There were a few with flat side windows special order (like mine) in the early 80s. If the one you are looking at has a factory mid door, it is a rare bird. I believe there were only 6 made. |
