I remember reading somewhere that someone was making mounting brackets for the V730 trans to place an extra alt their. Also I was lazy the other day and didn't feel like placing the big 8d batts back into the rts and used 2 small car batts. The bus started right up without a problem. The question, who has went to smaller batts to start there 24volts. I live in southern oregon and really don't use the bus in the winter, parked in the bus garage with all the batts out on the counter charging. |

find a Flx - they have brackets on the PTO drive for thier v730/v731's from their huge 12volt alternators I use 2 "31 case" 12volt batteries for starting and 2 12volt "31 case" for house batteries I have 2 very heavy duty soleniods (continous operation-150amp each) in parrallel(sp) in case I need to tie then together to start (have never needed to) - I also energize the 2 soleniods with a small 12volt power supply that is plugged into my Trace inverter/charger and I energize those solenoids with the "r" terminal of the 50DN Detroit Diesel engine Generator That way both sets of batteries charge - whenever their is a good charging source and disconnect from each other when their is not beats heavy duty 300amp isolators $$$$$$$$$$ Pete RTS/Daytona |

Ran a TDM 5108 for about a year with one 8D battery. Never had a problem. But never tried to start it in really cold weather, either. |

We removed the 2 8D batteries from our MC-8 and replaced them with 2 group 31 batteries. 6 years later and still using the same 2 group 31s with no problems. We do however, live in Florida, so no cold weather activity. Jack |

I built a bracket for duel Leece Neville 140 Amp alternators by cutting down the air conditioning compressor mount on my RTS.It's wat studier than needed and has an adjuster built in already.Very simple to do. Two small batteries are fine as long as it's warm and you have no problems, such as a bad check valve in the fuel line that requires some extra cranking power. Donn '80 RTS NJ |
