Hey all! I'm a newbie here and am the poor guy who inherited Captain Ron's old money pit. Actually, it's been really cool. Ron was right on with his description of the bus and what to expect. It was interesting to see the old conversation threads about his troubles. So far, I have replaced one rear tire, one front air bag, one rear airbag and I have the generator and voltage relay in the shop (Sound familiar?) My wife and I decided to retire our 73 Winnie and move up in the world with a bus as a camper. Ron had recycled much of the interior from the 4905 for his MCI, so we used the major appliances from the Winnie since they all worked excellently. Well, almost. The old furnace started shooting fire out the inspection hole. Will have to replace that. We dumped off the rear dead ac unit and put on a Coleman Mach 3 from the Winnie which worked great. Gotta find another one for the front. My buddy Jim and I cleaned out the air system and readjusted the brakes. They work great. The vibration in the rear was in part due to a misinstalled rear wheel lug that ended up between the inner and outer wheels. We recycled the Onan generator and put it in the old ac condenser compartment and ran the old wiring panel for brakers on the other side. Some friends of ours gave us several kitchen cabinets and almost 20 feet of countertop so that took care of our kitchen. Ron didn't leave a bathroom sink and it had not been plumbed for one, but for a camper, we just use the kitchen sink. Not really a big deal. Originally Ron was putting the fridge on the passenger side, but we flopped it so it rides forward of the shower. The engine hardly uses oil! We used 1 quart in 550 some miles! Some other repairs - the skinner valve for the enging shut off did not function, but it was due to a dead mouse in the engine bay electrical panel. The same critter also corroded the engine bay lights. The speedo sending unit had fallen out of the tranny or had not been reinstalled. Plugged it in and was good to go. Got the brake lights down to 12 volt using a relay to use the 12 volt system. Re wired the trailer harness as well.

I have had more people come up to me and ask about the Captain Ron show! I'm not sure what the new exterior look will be, but I'll miss the questions.

Ron - Do you still have the photos of the bus from when you first got it? They were posted, but the link is no longer functioning. I'd like to see what was done before you reskinned it. Also, did you frame the windows and was there previous skinning done? If so, did you cut into it or remove it? I may in the futrue re-reskin it so some info in advance would be great. My wife and I have had a ball with this thing. Can't wait for the weekends!

Remember the the guy in the Richard Pryor movie "MOVING"? Remember when Richard and his wife were looking at the new house in Idaho. The owners of the house they wanted to buy kept saying " WE'RE TAKING IT WITH US "....sounds a little like Capt. Ron. Glad to see you are making good progress on your conversion. Ingenuity can save many dollars and end up with great results. Looking forward to your continued progress.

Are you keeping all of the diamond plate...like on the sink counter, etc.?

Have to give ol'Capt. Ron an A+ for design ingenuity!

Yeah, the paint will eventually go. I have 2 harley's myself, so I kinda hate to do it. Ron was smart to keep all of the diamond plate stuff. I thought it was pretty cool.

Ron - forgot to ask, did you end up replacing the motor mounts?

The Capt. took one other thing out of the old bus.

The “Chick Magnet”.

He installed it in his new bus and pulled in a new girlfriend.

Did the Capt. give you a tail light guarantee?
That is a guarantee until he can’t see your taillights anymore as you are driving away.

Seriously, I wish you good luck and hope you enjoy your new hobby.

Capt. no offense… hope you can take a joke even a bad one!
