I'm getting a "do not shift" light on my ATEC shifter in a '89 NJ Eagle. I need to check wiring to make sure it's plugged into the computer. Can someone tell me where the ATEC computer is located?

I cannot tell you where the ATEC computor is located, but would suggest you locate and check the fuses that feed the DDEC and ATEC ECMs. They will be located near the batteries and on a 12V tap...the fuses will cause this sort of failure.
The "Do Not Shift" light will also indicate a DDEC fault...or failure of the com link between the DDEC and ATEC. Check the DDEC fuses also. DDECs and ATECs are very dependable...most issues are related to plugs, wiring, corrosion, etc. Is the big plug on the RH side of the trans still plugged into the trans? Is it clean and tight?
The ATEC ECM is going to be near the transmission in a dry box or bay. It's a big item, about 4"X8"X12 with a DD logo cast into it. If DDEC II, all the DDEC units are located on the engine, 89s are DDEC II. If DDEC 1, the ECMS are probably located in the rear bay up high, under a cover of some sort.
Is the "Check Engine" light on too? Most NJTs have a "mode" switch for both the ATEC and DDEC that will flash out the codes. Once this is located, the dx feature will be helpful. You also have a ALDL plug under the drivers seat that will allow a Pro-Link or similar to be plugged into the DDEC/ATEC for diagnostics. A Prolink will rule out catastrophic failure of transmission too. That's unlikely, but possible. If it was working well when you parked it, likely just a wiring issue.
Don't jump 24V to the ECMS..they operate on 12V typically. Don't jump anything unless you know what your doing. An Eagle may be a 12V coach?

Thanks JR. Your info is exactly what I needed. I will check the tap fuses first thing. I saw them, but didn't know what they went to.

The ATEC ECM on your bus will be on the front wall of the front bay on the entry door side. There is an aluminum shield mounted on the front wall and the ECM box is mounted on the wall behind this shield.

As far as trouble shooting, use the diagnostic system that is on your dash to read the fault codes. You will need a list of the fault codes to figure out the problem.
