Hello, I had to drain the coolant from the system and remove a section of copper pipe in order to have a pinhole leak repaired. My dilemma is this...I can't get all of the coolant back into the system. I have found two "bleeder petcocks" which bled the air out of the system. Is there another fill location beside the one up top on the right hand side? Any help would be appreciated...I have approx. 3-4 gallons of coolant left over at this point... |

I had the same issue a year ago. I went to harbor freight and purchased a small electrical pump. It worked great. As you already know, I made sure the coolant appeared in the sight glass. I would also run the heater for a few minutes to ensure coolant has circulated to all the pipes. Good luck! Grant |

You will probably have to crack a line up front at the heater to get rid of all the air in the system. Richard |

I'd start it and drive it a short distsnce a mile or two with the heat on and get it up to temp & cirulating and then jus top it off! If you've bleeded the air on the motor the rest will self bleed once circulating! BK |

and also not to forget that quickly dumping a lot of cold coolant into a hot engine that is very low can crack a head, do it slowly to mix with the warm (not hot) coolant. |

My 87 MC9 has bleeders on the main heater core. I don't know if this was an NJT mod or all have it...but the heater core will hold a right good bit of water I'd reckon. Also, inside the radiator filler door, there's a bleeder just below the filler. Push the button down and the last gallon or so will go in. The button bleeds the air out of the surge tank. The coolant will back up and won't go in (in my bus anyway) once down to the last gallon or so. JR |

My Eagle would not self bleed the heater and associated piping. Even after running it several miles. If yours has a circulationg pump, then make sure it is turned on and it might bleed the system. I don not know about the circulating pump when I was having my problem with the heater not working. Richard |

Hello guys, Thanks for the advice...I did get the last of it in using the two bleeders on the engine and the vent button on next to the filler tube. Thanks for your help though...I appreciate it. What did I learn from this? There are times when the fix isn't quick...it's a process!!! Be careful out there! |

Hello Tim. You may have to bleed an air lock from the heat exchanger up in the dash, if you still have it. Insufficient heat is the result, if it is air locked. The main heater core is below the lines, so the air will travel back to the motor, the defroster core is above the lines, so it traps air. Remove the panels on the dash front and the bleed valve is right there at the top of the core. Good idea to check those other two bleeders on the motor after a run to be sure the air is all out. happy coaching! buswarrior |

Thanks BusWarrior, I'll double check the heat exchanger up front. I did take a short run with it to double check the other two bleeders in the rear. Everything seemed peachy...made a run from NJ to Waveland, MS earlier this week without any cooling problems. It's too dang hot to even think of turning the heater on down here to check it's effectiveness. But before we leave, I'm sure I'll do it anyway! Take care! Tim |
