Took a short bike ride with my family this evening while we are staying here in Waveland, MS and discovered an abandoned MC-9 sitting in a parking lot next to Walmart on Hwy 90. It was completely submerged thanks to Katrina. The entry door is missing and all but one window is missing. However, there are still many good parts on the bus (bay doors, engine compartment doors, bumpers, dash pieces, etc. The engine is ruined as are many of the other components. Someone ripped out most of the copper to recycle it for cash. Just thought it was an interesting discovery. It apparently was owned by the American Legion...wish I knew who to contact. I'd love to have the mirrors...they're in better shape than mine!

That bus belonged to the Amvets. The bus was recovered by another fellow who desired to repair and make it as a transport bus. While it has been sitting the starter, the door, a few windows and a number of other parts have been removed. The bus was just being stored there until he could transport it back home. I was attempting to purchase it but the guy was sure he was going to make it a running bus.

Opps sorry American Legion. I did advise the owner should he change his mind before it was totally stripped that I was interested in it.

Airless,

That's interesting. It's a shame it's still sitting there waiting to be vandalized further. There are still many many good parts on it. If you know the owner, you should call them. It's sitting up on decent rubber and could be towed out without too much difficulty. It's condition is just going to worsen the longer it sits there...

I agree I pleaded with him to purchase it or for him to remove it before it goes totally to waste. Bus even has a good spare and lots of good metal. When I first moved back it had the electric starter on it and the door. Then next day boom gone... ( I SWEAR I DID NOT DO IT). I am about 25 miles north straight up the road where the bus is until we are able to move back to our place.

Airless,

What type of bus do you have? I'm just down the road from Walmart on Hwy 90 across from the Bay St. Louis Post Office. We are parked on a small side street for the rest of this week while we finish up some work with the group that came from our church in NJ.

Off topic question-- There used to be a bank next to the place the rr tracks came across the bay. technically in bay st. louis. Is it still there? It survived Camille but the friends of ours who owned it sold it in june, before the storm. We stayed the night in it a few times and were just wondering if it is still there.
Thanks.

I'm no longer in that area. I am currently in Sioux Falls, SD. We enjoyed our stay in Waveland/Bay St. Louis tremendously and are planning a return trip next June. Hey airless...how did your visit with your father go?
