since i am new to all this everything is overwhelming, i found a flxible club that i am gonna join, seems good, but as far as good sams and other "save money on campsites" type stuff, what is worth it and what isnt? like the book question i posted, there are so many out there it is hard to know what is just a money taker and what actually helps and saves money. are there more bus-specific clubs, or just general campground memberships for cheaper overnight stays, and also, who has expierence with busnusa? the convention......sounds like it would be good, but everything does at this point:o) would a newbie like me benefit? i wanna be hands on and do the repair stuff as much as i can, but there is another bucket of worms:-O)one step at a time.......

FMCA is a great organization to belong to if you have a Motorhome and do any traveling you should consider FMCA. You will NOT get any junk mail from FMCA as they do not sell your name to others where as Good Sam does and you will be flooded with junk mail. Road service with FMCA is through Coach Net and their people are trained RV people an they will know something about your problem when you call. I am not affiliated with FMCA in fact I belong to Good Sam and FMCA.

I think it would be well worth your time to attend BussinUSA, whether you take your bus or not. There will be dozens and dozens of very knowledgeable bus nuts who will let you see their coaches and answer any conceivable question you might have.

If your bus is running, take it so that they can see it also and answer any questions you have.

I am certain that if a YL takes her bus to the convention, she will not be lacking for attention.

You might look at Passport America. 50% off a lot of campgrounds. Pays for itself real quick.
Also check out the Boondocking and Free Campground websites.
There are some good Dump Station websites as well.

Re:

The money "saved" is usually at places that are overcharging
anyway. Some places charge 60-90$ per night, so a "club"
membership may save you 30-50% of that. A state, county,
corps of engineers, or private campground may be less than
the cost of the high priced spread, with the "discounts".

Keep in mind, that some of the "listed campgrounds" may
not accept partially finished conversions, or those that do
not conform to their own aesthetic qualifications... Just
because you're a "member", does not grant you access.

We are Good Sams and FMCA members. I've never had to use the Good Sams emergency road service for my bus, but have used it for other vehicles. The Good Sams membership also gives me a 10% discount on parts and accessories at a local RV place, when I pay cash or use my debit card.

kristine -

We've been members of the "Good Sams" club for quite a
few years. Their magazine comes with the $25 dues, so it
makes it worthwhile.

You do get discounts at various campgrounds, and if you
get the MBNA card from "Good Sams", you'll enjoy
discounts at Campingworld stores, as well!

We were members of FMCA, but they seem to cater to
the high-end RVrs. Some of their RV Park sponsors do
not accept RVs older than ten years... And most will reject
a "home conversion", unless it looks like a conversion that
was a commercially produced product.

We were no longer members of FMCA, after they had a
rally, that had a "special" speaker that addressed camping
issues "in a language that women can understand".

I called FMCA, and they felt that their concerns that women
should have special narrative, was perfectly OK.

(I am a male, and I find that objectionable; how do you feel?)

i face that kind of crap all the time, i started my tattoo shop as a 19 yr old single blond female ...no respect! i am 36 now, and no longer blonde and still get the same crap, women and men are exposed to different things on a different learning curve so to speak, i believ anyone can learn to sew or fix a car, it is what you are exposed to most that you learn, simple as that , me i have a VERY HIGH IQ and learn lots and fast, but some men dont care....so those are the ones i dont even worry about....i would have dropped the club too! good for you and thanx for the post. if i am not traveling arund full time, is good sams still good to belong to? for info in their mag? :o)

For the mag, yeah.. it's got some decent generic info. You get
"club" discounts at a whole ton of campgrounds. And most
cater to the average camper, rather than the high-gloss "Prevost"
FMCA membership.

(just my personal opinion ya' unerstan... youse mileage may vary)
