Ok, how do you get the bottom nut loose off of a DD 8v71 starter motor? Is there a special wrench or maybe it's a secret procedure that only the chosen few know. I'd like to find the engineer that came up with this mounting system for the starter and kick his little you know what!!! I'm just a little aggravated. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

Steve if my menory is still working it is a 15/16 wrench and what i did was get a cheap on at a pawn shop and cut and weld it to the proper angle to be able to turn that nut and when you get the starter out take out the stud and go to your local DD dealer or heavy truck shop and get the new starter bolt that goes in there in place of the nut washer and stud which you can replace easy with a socket set up.

The bolt in the bottom is suppose to be a 12 pt bolt, as, there is not enough room to get a 15/16th wrench in there. Than you can use a 9/16 socket, and get the new style 12, pt in and out.
It has been a while, but that is the way I think I remember it.

Hey guys thanks for the info. I'll give that pawn shop wrench idea a try. I was thinking that once I got it out I would try to find a smaller nut to fit. Taking the stud out and replacing it with a bolt sounds like a better idea. Wish I had asked this question before I put the motor in the bus! Thanks again.
