After finding out what was wrong with my transmission. I was looking in my mci manual and see that for the mci 9 with a 8v71 there are two different allison transmissions listed.
1 is what is in mine and it is the 740 series.
it also lists the 754 series.
what is the difference?
And if I were to replace mine what is the best to go with/
carl mci 9

The 754 is a five speed with no overdrive. As for which one is better I do not know, I would do the research and compare the gear ratios and see which best fits your driving needs.

Hope this helps, Duane

An HT740 has no overdrive either. The HT740 is probably the strongest of the two. An HT740 has 1/1 in locked 4th gear. Gives almost the same milage as a manual on the highway.
Both would work without issues in a coach.
Don't get into an ATEC electronic trans.
There are more HT740s at good prices available.
