After finding out what was wrong with my transmission. I was looking in my mci manual and see that for the mci 9 with a 8v71 there are two different allison transmissions listed. 1 is what is in mine and it is the 740 series. it also lists the 754 series. what is the difference? And if I were to replace mine what is the best to go with/ carl mci 9 |

The 754 is a five speed with no overdrive. As for which one is better I do not know, I would do the research and compare the gear ratios and see which best fits your driving needs. Hope this helps, Duane (Message edited by Duane on July 08, 2006) |

An HT740 has no overdrive either. The HT740 is probably the strongest of the two. An HT740 has 1/1 in locked 4th gear. Gives almost the same milage as a manual on the highway. Both would work without issues in a coach. Don't get into an ATEC electronic trans. There are more HT740s at good prices available. |
