anyone know where to find cores or complete radiators for mc9. Diesel radiator said they had neither which surprised me after reading others had purchased from them. MCI has both cores and radiators but are more than I want to spend. |

Which engine, 6V92 or 8V92? Where do they need to be delivered? |

What are your overall intentions with the bus? Do you plan to remain with the same engine, upgrade or repower? I have no formal posture, one way or the other. (but if pressed, would opine that there's a huge amount of ego-driven desire somehow associated with the need to run to the crest of "Rockytop" at 65+ MPH) Those who dare should check out the Caterpillar site for the RV Performance page. Most either upgrade or aspire to do so. If you aspire to something better or bigger, I'd do the radiators now, as it's false economy otherwise. Marc Bourget |

I installed brand new replacement radiators and seals in my MCI 8 (8V71) from Diesel Radiator in Chicago. In hot weather, in the mountains, I would have to stop to cool down with those new radiators. When I repowered with an 8V71T, there was no question in my mind that I should change to the "102" radiators. I think they were 6K-1-5, $1900 from Diesel Radiator. Pulley diameter and fan size is important too. Ed Roelle Flint, MI |

Ed, No argument with your observations. I agree totally with larger radiators. Gumpydog has a nice how-to chapter on up-sizing MCI radiators. However, with a standard 8V71, the replacement radiators should have easily handled the heat load. I suspect you had a aeration problem or maybe a head gasket leak, or?? in the 8V71, leading to the problem you observed. Was the installation or hookup of the replacement radiators any different from the original, factory setup? Re-routing a line or changing a fitting can have a marked effect. |

Hi Dan, Give me a call sometime. Right now we are in the "rockies". Before we left I put spray nozzles on my radiators, and I'm sure glad I did. With a selanoid valve and a switch at the drivers seat it's real easy to cool her down. Hope you find your radiators. Marc |

Thanks for all the help. I'm ordering the 6k-1-5 from Diesl Radiator. The "102" radiators are actually less through them then the original radiator through MCI. Guess I'll find out what it takes to get them installed. From what I remember seeing somewhere It takes a bit of fabrication to make them fit. Where do I find info from Gumpydog? |

Hi Marc! After posting my note I saw yours so thought I'd respond. We were in Colorado just recently for a family reunion. Spent a few days at a retreat west of Loveland and then went down to Colorado Springs and visited Focus on the Family. Have a wonderful trip.Dan |

Here is Craig's site (Gumpydog). Excellent info. http://www.gumpydog.com/bus/MC9_WIP/Mechanical/Radiators_And_Blowers/radiators_and_blowers .htm Marc - when I had temperature problems, everything was stock design and sealed well. I did have N65 injectors and later found that it did not have advanced timing - which may make some difference. Also, it was over 100 degrees and we were in the Rockies pulling a heavy car. It was miserable. My point - IF you are changing radiators, do it right once-and-for-all by going with the largest radiator, large fans, and small pulley. Ed |

Dan, I have a set of used radiators in my shop. I removed them from my MCI 102A3, they were designed for a 6V92T. I have a 8V92T, they were slightly undersized. They look great and I had no problems with them. Contact me thru this board if you are interested. I have them sitting on a pallet. I am in Ohio |

I have two complete radiators I removed from my 102A3. One is in good condition the other in fair condition. Neither one had begun to leak yet and had just completed a trip through the eastern mountains of PA, NY, WV and NC, also, a trip west to Nevada using the radiators was successful with no heating problems. The A3 had two sizes of radiators and these are the smaller ones. Will sell if price can be determined. Thanks. DrEd. |
