Was surfing for Flxible information and found this place. Seems like a good place to ask technical questions and the like. I own a 1975 Flxible 53102-8-1 Ser 60300 that I am planning to keep restored as a Transit Bus for historical benifits. i found it sitting in a vacant lot in 1993 and bought it and it needed a 8V71 as the one in it had a cracked block due to sitting through a freeze. Bus was from Sacremento Regional Transit,,still has its seats, headsigns and has a working farebox. I named the bus "Eileen" as she has a tendency to lean to one side or another when the airbags go down,,happened at a bus show back in 1998,,Another Story.

thats funny. ive lived in sacramento my whole life and i remember seeing and riding those buses. those buses(specifically the RT ones) are the reason im such a bus nerd. i remember when they phased them out and replaced them with gilligs. and i remember when they phased out the gilligs with orions. and now theyre phasing out those with the new low-floor orions. wow. i need to get a job. haha |

Welcome aboard, Phil If your Flx has the 8V71 w/ a V-730, you've got yourself a hot rod! Fresno Transit had 50 1977 versions, that went like stink, and would easily hit 75 mph (had 4:10 rear ends in them). Drivers loved them, made it much easier to maintain the schedules, compared to the later smog-equipped models. Only real complaint was for the marginal a/c in our summer heat. They probably would have stayed in the fleet a little longer, had it not been for ADA regulations. They were auctioned off, most going to Pedco for scrapping, but a few survived. One went to FPD for a command center, I think it's finally been retired. . . Sacramento has a good maintenance dept., so at least while it was in service, Eileen was well cared for. Be sure to join the Pacific Bus Museum, too! They've got an "Old Look" GM from Sacratomato in their fleet. www.pacbus.org is the link. Enjoy your new toy!! |

"Eileen" has a 8v71 with a VS2-8 Just took her for a bath last night after sitting for a couple years. Finally got insurance/registration so she`s street legal again. The bus does about 70-75,,but rarely get that high. I agree that Sac must have a great maint dept as I have very few "Squaks" that I live with. I need to charge the A/C somehow as it has leaked out all the R22,and I think the Master Switch is misswired as "Night Park" does not have the Exterior lights on with the bus off. Other than that,,The Brakes are almost Brand New,I have new tires,The Engine had to be replaced when I bought it and it is a very good runner,no smoke but jumps out of the gate. The bus has all of its signs, seats and has a farebox,,Ready for "Monday Rollout" I wish that the ADA Hadn`t killed off the classics,,but at least some are preserved. Thanks Phil /Rt4957 |
