Has anyone changed from a 6V92 to an 8V92 in a MCI 102 and if so was it difficult. What changes had to be made? Thanks, Roy |

The 8v-92ta should fit in a 102A3 since it was available factory installed. The parts manual for the 102A3 shows what parts are different for the 8v-92ta. For example the motor cradle is different and the drive shaft is also a different part number. The exhaust pipes are larger on the 8v-92 and the radiators are larger. The air intake system is also larger. Many of the 8v-92 buses will have a 3.3 rear end ratio but the 6v-92 usually have a 3.7. The 3.3 ratios will give better fuel mileage with the 8v-92 and it has the power to pull it well. You probably will need to change the gears. Try and get a look at the MCI 102 parts manual and you can make a list of what parts will need to change. The next problem is searching for these parts at a reasonable price. Since all the parts and engineering have already been done for you by MCI, this should be less trouble than going to a Series 50 or Series 60. The cheapest way is to buy a MCI 102 with the 8v-92ta factory installed. Good Luck |

Jerry, He's talking about changing to an 8V92, not a S-60! 8V92s were stock in MCI 102s, |

Roy I went from a 8v71 to an 8v92 It was a lot of work hope you have access to a forklift if your doing it at home. I also went with a allison 740 Power your bet as for fuel these day's well 5to 7 mpg at best. still dealing with a heat problem, whic I think is my being used to the 871 and running @ 1800/1900 rpms the 892 Also I will cruse 65mph @1600 rpms! not sure but I think if I drop a gear in the mt's might help. Also my bus is an Eagle. |
