I just got into Charlotte tonight (staying with my daughter & family), but I "limped" in from Knoxville unable to use the clutch as I was told there that they think the "throw-out" bearing is shot - can't get the manual 4 speed in gear - had to start it a few times in 1st, then shifted without using the clutch. Does anyone who lives in the Charlotte area know of a good Bus Repair Garage that can check my 1970 MC7 out and fix whatever I need??? Without you guys who live down here, I have no idea of where to take it. I really appreciate any and all help I can get. Thank You! Norm Edlebeck

Any one of these can tell you where to bring it. The Trailways
garages were good to other operators, but I'm not sure if
they'll take an "outsider"...

Norm, from personal experience I highly recommend this guy. David's Coach & Truck, (828)874-6105. I recently had my MC5 therefor extensive work. Very satisfied...will return.

I'll third the David's Coach suggestion. Most shops in Charlotte are going to resist working on an MC7, and they'll burn you a new one if they do. Most don't do 2 strokes and most wouldn't know how anyway. The clutch and throwout bearing may be a different animal, I believe that the engine has to be removed to get the trans out, and that will be a show stopper for most shops.
I'd get it out of Charlotte. If you need a place to store the coach, feel free to leave it down here...between Monroe and Charlotte near the Monroe airport.
If you have a towing service, Davids is less than 100 miles from here.
Have you checked to see if the linkage is damaged? Anything less than full articulation would act like a throwout bearing failure.
I'm at 704 650 0235. Let me know if I can assist you. I'm right familiar with an MC9, had my engine out and all, but am not familiar with manual trans. I do have a service manual here on MC9 trans and linkages.
Good Luck, JR

BTW Norm, If you decide to take your coach or have it towed, to David's (or anyplace else of your choosing) let me know when and I'll be glad to pick you up and deliver you back to Charlotte.
There's a guy here in Monroe that works on the local church buses...if you wish, I'll be glad to call tomorrow and get the name and phone number of the place. I do all my own work and just don't interface with retail service depts.
My phone number is on the previous post...call anytime. Leave a message if no answer...often areas of my workplace are dead zones...no problem calling during working hours or evenings. I'll call right back, usually within minutes if I miss the call.
Best, JR

Hi Ned,
Norm is responding...he's sort of up to his a$$ in alligators right now...he has a leaking fuel tank in addition to the non-functioning throwout bearing. I believe Norm has decided to get the coach down to Lancaster, SC, to a bus shop that someone recommended. Unsure whether he plans to have it towed or try to drive it.
He's also an FMCA vendor, and has paid for a booth at the FMCA rally in Charlotte. Hope it works out for him. I believe his product is in a trailer...just have to get the trailer out to the speedway. I'll be checking this out. Norm has family in this area and shouldn't have problems with getting his equipment moved and set up. Don't know where he's going to live during the rally? Maybe rent a MH or TT for the week.
I get up to Lenoir every now and then...I'll let you know...nobody around here will talk bus'n with me...about worn that subject out...and I haven't even got started good! Most people just don't "get it!"
You coming down to Timmonsville? I'll definitely be there...or somewhere between. Enjoy meeting you!
If you find yourself down this way, give me a call. I'm usually nearby. Also have plenty parking space in your in a bus...benefits of country living. Well, I used to be in the country...not anymore...but I could park 20 buses out here with awnings out. Come'on down!
Best, JR

Hi Fellow Busnuts,
Sorry for not answering your posts. THANK YOU ALL for your input and recommendations. I did contact a few that John MC9 gave me early on (above) and have been in contact with a good bus man who came up tonight & kinda diagnosed that not only the throw-out bearing is shot, but looks like clutch may also be. He has used a place here in Charlotte that rebuilds clutches & will get ahold of them on Mon. If not there, will get one from Luke (2nd one in two years - because some "plow jockey" former friend, installed wrong). As JR Lynch said above, I've been on the phone and "plotting" my next move. Called Luke & he has a MC7 just in that he's parting out. We talked about the fuel tank & he can send it out. Have to call him back to confirm that I want it. Otherwise, my daughter, son-in-law & kids will bring me to vendors area on Sunday with their van. I only have 1 product to sell, so set up should not take long. Stop in & say HI - I'll be in booth #491. THANKS AGAIN ALL YOU guys & especially JR Lynch who's been giving me some really good help. See you at the FMCA Convention next week. Norm Edlebeck
